how hard was it to pump it by hand?Iwould be suprised if a mechanical fuel pump could be easily pumped by hand as the spring pressure required to hold the arm against the eccentric is considerable If its a cleveland or windsor you cannot pump by hand.I own a 1980 running a cleveland and found that if you put an electric pump as close to the fuel tank as possible and have a good original mechanical pump fuel delivery is no longer a problem.I had to do this as soon as i went to a 600 holley as the original pump was not able to supply sufficient flow.the electric pump doesnt have to be an expensive hi volume type,it only has to help to get fuel to the mechanicl pump

Whenever I fuel my 2007 escape the nozzle keeps clicking off as though it is full but it is far from full. What would be causing that problem?

Hi, 1st, do you use only one petrol / gas station to fuel your Escape, ? Sometimes the nozzles are faulty, if that not the case, Take off the cap, and there will be an air bypass hose , small in diameter, on some cars they are visible, come up beside the filling hole, it could be blocked, not letting the air escape as fuel goes into your tank, ,Also , with a torch, not a lighter or match, I cant stress that enough, torch!!!, see if the little flap is returning, get ur self a piece of stiff wire, ( clean) eg, coat hanger wire, about 6 inches, 150 mm in length, and push on the flap, it should return, its has a small spring that makes it return, check that, with the same wire, carefully put in the air escape tubes,/ hoses, & make sure they are clear. if your able to access them, if you cant, you may have to find them by taking off the interior panels. As I have not actually seen the Escape fuel system, I am not 100% certain , however, most cars all work on a similar system, Hope this helps, . Please let me know how you get on, I would be happy to help more if needed....Regards
Kipp

Gas fill problem

the filler tube relies on an air bleed hose that runs from the top of the tank to where you place the filler nozzle. This allows air in the tank to bleed out as you are filling it. If this tube is blocked (pinched) then the air has to come out the filler tube past the nozzle and any fuel will cut the flow of at the nozzle.

When putting gas in my 2004 Kia amanit the fuel nozzle kicks off. How do I locate and fix the problem

HI Bridgette,

Due to the different shapes of fuel tank filler necks in cars & trucks, it may be necessary to vary one or more things to allow fuel to flow uninterrupted until the tank is really full.

The main problem can come from the new "vapor recovery" gasoline pumps. These pumps and hoses actually recover gasoline fumes from your tank as the liquid gasoline displaces the air / fumes in the tank is it is being filled. If gasoline flow is started at full blast, it can splash back slightly, causing liquid to be pulled back by the pump - so it shuts off. So, start with a slow rate of filling and gradually increase flow rate to maximum over 5 to 10 seconds. If it still shuts off, try some of the suggestions below.

First, don't fill at maximum flow rate from the pump - that is, don't set the nozzle for wide open. Select one of the other "latches" on the handle instead of the fastest flow and let the tank fill entirely at this rate.

Second, you should experiment a bit with the length of nozzle that you push into the tank's filler neck. If you push it in too far or too little, the pump nozzle can do what you're describing.

Third, try twisting the nozzle slightly so that it doesn't hang straight downward - a little to the left or right may provide a solution.

Lastly, try a different gas station. Their pumps may not be so picky with your tank's filler neck.

Good luck!

When pumping gas in a 2000 hyundai it the nozzle keeps cutting off . it take forever to fill the gas tank up

i`m guessing that you have tried to install the nozzle in different places in the filler neck while filling the car.if this you have tried then you may have a bad vent valve that is not working properly causing excess air pressure in the fuel tank shutting off the nozzle.have a shop check this out for you.

Fuel Tank Overflow

This is caused by some gas station pumps, not your vehicle. The sensor on a lot of pumps at stations are not replaced or adjusted, or the nozzle is not pressed in far enough when the attendant inserts the nozzle when fueling a vehicle. I too had the same problem, and realized the solution after testing other fuel stations/pumps.

where the filler neck goes to tank didnt it have seperate tube which is vent or with filler neck hose off at tank look inside tube for another hose it is vent hose take fuel cap off and blow air from tank end towards the filler cap area we have had two ford vehicles lately in our shop when we blow shop air backwards thru hose several little round pieces of foil off of fuel injector cleaner bottles somehow they had become lodged in vent line and one customer had vehicle towed from gas station because they were on empty and would accept no gas you may want to check this doesn,t have to be cleaner bottle tops could be any sort of debris but ours came flying out of fuel cap when when blew air thru you could pump gas with handle all the way down she was happy

Fuel Tank

I have had this problem. For me it's usually when the tank is really empty. I worked at a gas station and at times, I'd have to replace the gas nozzles when they wouldn't kick off correctly.. I suspect the problem is that the gas nozzle is picking up more gasoline fumes that are being displaced in the tank and venting thru the fuel filler opening. The gas nozzle detects enough gasoline vapors with it's sensor to shut-off the nozzle. One can slightly adjust the nozzle in the fuel filler opening (or wait a few additional seconds giving time for the fuel vapors to exit the fuel tank)) and it works great.. I do not believe it is a problem with the Blazer. It's a combination of the gas nozzle and the amount of vapor escaping the filler opening with the displacement of vapor in the gas tank. I've had this happen in my Ford Contour.
I hope this helps others.

The fule tank vent tube is blocked/clogged. It's the little hole next to the filler hose that invites spiders that clog it up. Blow out the tube and it fixes the problem.
