SOURCE: VW GOLF MK4 2000 REG not pulling properly

Have it scanned so you'll know which system is causing negative performance issue. 2000 models have issues with the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, temperature sensor, pre-cat converter 02 sensor and a second gear grind with it's 02J transmission to name a few.

Maybe you magnetic wheel sensors are contaminated or need replacing, that's what sends the data to the ECM. A faulty wiring could also cause sporadic occurrences when a problem acts up.

go to the vw dealer and tell the service advisor you want them to "reset basic settings on my transmission". i used to be a tech at a vw dealer and this fixes about 90% of all transmission shifting issues. they will charge you iether .5 or 1.0 hrs labor for this although it only takes about 5 minutes.

My Diesel Golf lacks power and acceleration on hills, can you advise what the problem is?

The problem could probabely be the diesel filter, try replacing it.
If there's no difference thn best would be to service the injector pump and the nozzles.

We think it could be the engine management system - would recommend going to a reputable garage for it to be reprogrammed.

Vw golf gt tdi 115.

If you are losing water and it is not being forced out of the reservoir (unlikely) and ther is no sign of it dripping from the engine plumbing... then if your acceleration is starting to diminish... or you seem to not have as much power as usual, then it is probably a faulty cylinder head gasket... sorry.... hopefully not, as this is a bit of a job to fix.
