SOURCE: Fuel pump not working in 2001 Pontiac Montana

It is always possible that you have a bad pump, it happens. If your sure the pump it not working it could be a number of things. Did you replace the filter (if it has a exterior one)? A clogged filter can trigger premature failure of a fuel pump. It could be a blown fuse or relay. What does the engine do when you turn it over? Does it fire at all?

It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the gauze input filter that is part ot the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

Explain puttering ! never heard that one before , an I've been fixing automobiles for over thirty years ! An it's not a term GM uses . Misfire , surges or chuggles ,hesitation .What you should do is take it to a reputable ASE certified repair shop an have them do a diagnostic check with a factory or equal scan tool .

Van won't start

There is a port on your fuel rail,Its like a tire valve push on it a see if fuel is coming out.If it isn't you will need to replace fuel filter first, If you still don't have pressure you are going to have to replace fuel pump.If you can hear the pump it doesn't mean that it is working. It does mean you have elec to it.you need at least 35lbs pressure to fire injectors. You will need to check for spark at spark plugs to.after these test repost and we can solve this problem

Doesn't seem to be getting fuel. Has Gas but may not be pumping. How do I check pump

Have another person with you in performing this test: Have other person stand near rear of vehicle near fuel filler door, turn key to on position (DO NOT START). If fuel pump is working, there should be a short hum (or buzz). It may be necessary for helper to kneel near ground in order to hear fuel pump. If there is no sound, check the fuel pump relay located under hood in master fuse block. To check if relay is bad, use a jumper wire and insert into slots that hold relay. If fuel pump makes a sound, then replace relay.
