Question about 2001 Saab 9-3

1 Answer

My reverse lights are staying on even when car is in drive

I have a 2001 Saab 9-5 and even when I put the care in drive the reverse lights stay on. The car drives, accelerates and reverses just fine, I just can not get the lights to go out when I select drive. Anyone know what the problem might be. My warranty just expired and I am now having nothing but expensive issue with this car.

Probably faulty reverse/neutral switch at tranny. Should be approx $20- $25 for switch, and I'm guessing 1/2 hr lab to change. Cleaning contact may help, worth a try, but doubtful.

Because I have no accesss to manuals on that particular vehicle at this time, I'll use the term normally, or should be. Look around top (above drain pan) & side of transmission for a wiring harness or plug going into the switch. Will more than likely be a round threaded in switch, threaded into casting at top or side. Connector for wiring will have a little catch holding it where it plugs into the switch, simply pull it back a bit to clear catch & pull connector off. Leave car turned off until you remove it, then turn key on & see if lights went out, if they did, you found it, if not, keep looking. Good Luck, let us know.

Can bad 02 sensors cause the engine to vibrate and make a humming noise? or bad motor mounts

Bad O2 sensors affect the fuel/air mixture. Vibrations can be caused by many sources, hard to diagnose here. To test the motor mounts. apply the parking brake, open the hood. Put the car in drive and step on the brake with one foot while applying full throttle with the gas pedal. Watch for excessive engine lifting on one side. Be careful not to have the engine fan to contact the shroud. Now do the same in reverse. If the engine lifts excessively, your mounts are shot. If the engine stays put with only a slight movement from torque, then the mounts are good.

The warning light will stay on until you rectify the problem with the box. Warning lights are not there to annoy drivers or to be ignored.

2001 saab 9-3

Kind of an odd problem. This may be off in a different direction but I had an 78 BMW that the left turn signal did the same thing .It turned out to be the hazard light switch had a short in it. The problem was intermittent and very frustrating. The fix was a trip to the junk yard for a set of rims and the switch was a freebie. Don't know if this will help but I guess it can't hurt.
