SOURCE: My parking brake light stays on and my brakes seem

If the cable wasn't releasing the brakes would be engaged. I'm guessing the sensor (switch)on the brake lever is slightly out of adjustment.

it sounds like the front brake slides/or pins are sticking i would service front calipers and apply lube where needed. For the brake light you would need to check the brake fluid level sensor turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn and clean with brake clean if that doesn't work unplug the sensor and if light goes off replace sensor for brake fluid level. Also make sure parking brake is totally released.

2002 Ford Excursion 7.3 4x4 rear brakes getting smoking hot. Noticed it on driver side first. Assumed the rotor was sticking, replaced it and the hose. Relaxed pads and found the pads on passenger side...

There are a number of issues that can cause overheating disc brakes. Disc brakes, when released, separate from the disc by the action of the rotor moving between them (since no rotor is perfectly true, there is a small about of wobble and it pushes the pads away from the rotor surface). Things that can cause this to go wrong are:

  1. Caliper pistons that have rust rings that cause sticking. This most often will happen right after or shortly after replacing old, work out pads with new ones. Because the caliper piston was extended out farther with the worn pads, its surface may get rusty. This rust can cause sticking when the piston is pushed back into the bore with the new, thicker pads.
  2. Caliper slide bolts will rust and get sticky, not allowing the caliper to release properly and re-center itself on the rotor. What you often see here is that one pad (inner or outer) is totally worn out and the other seems normal.
  3. Rusty brake lines/caliper internals can cause restrictions in the flow of brake fluid and hold pressure after the brake pedal is released.
It is highly recommended that whenever you change your brake pads, you replace the caliper slide bolts use a new brake hardware kit when reinstalling. The additional cost is almost always saved in longer brake pad life, and fewer complications.

R1995 chev k1500 dieseleset brake warning light

Usually the warning light involves the low fluid switch on the master cylinder, the switch on the equalizer valve if equipped, and the switch on the parking brake. One of those switches may not be working.

On my 93 e 150 van if i have to hit the brakes hard, say for a red light the left rear brakes start to drag and after 10 miles they start to smoke.had new brakes put on and checked emer cable, still same...

Possibly a wheel cylinder sticking. Also a possibility that the rubber brake hose in the rear is damaged internally. (This will normally cause both rear brakes to stick, however) The only other thing I can think of is weak return springs or a brake shoe catching in the groove of a badly worn backing plate.

Rear brakes on 2002 chev tracker squeal when applied

They may have become seized, which is when the brakes are hot, and you hit a water puddle, the water crystallizes the brakes. Thee will need replaced, if not it will tear up the rotor,
