SOURCE: 1999 pontiac grand prix . will not run

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

Multible misfire on 1997 saturn sl 1.9

You should have a trouble code or codes for the cylinder that is not producing power.
Once you know which cylinder, you need three things to make power.
Spark, fuel, and compression. One of the three components is lacking, such as a faulty injector or mechanical problem.

These codes are making me lean towards the ignition coil pack.My stepson's 2001 Sable 3.0 v6 had one cylinder misfiring(5-code P0305),which shares a coil with cylinder 1(code P0301).I diagnosed it by trading wire 1 and 5 at the coil, and the code changed to P0301.You have codes for the two cylinders on the same coil,so this is most likely it.(these codes would also trigger P0300(Multiple Misfires Detected) and P0316(Misfire Detected First 1000 Revs)).

Car stalls after 30 min driving an wont start for about 45 min im getting a 0171 & 0300 code

PO-300 Random/Multiple Misfires

PO-171 (Bank #1) Too Lean --- O2 Sensor

Work on the Ignition Misfires first

The O2 Code may be a result of the misfire,
unless they are over 100,000 miles, then change them

I have a Ford Escort 2000 year model. It has a very poor idle. I checked the codes and it showed p0171 p0304 and p1131. I replaced the plugs, wires and the throttle position sensor. The car drove...

The PO 304 ---is a misfire code for cyl #3, just a code

The PO 353 --- is a misfire code for cyl#3 that refers you
to PO 350 which is an undetermined Primary or Secondary
Malfunction You can not have 300 & 350 codes on the same vehicle

The PO171 -is a Lean O2 Code for Bank 1 most likely from
a misfire yet to be determined

The PO 1131 ---Lack of Switching ,lean trying to correct
for over rich condition

Personally I think anyone that uses 10 oz of anything,
in an 16 to 18 gallon fuel tank is wasting their money
There has never been any mfg recommend injector cleaner
In a ford they say not to use it,as it will damage the pintel coating,
which I doubt,still useless product

Did you clean the MAF Sensor

Continue to check for leaks,including
the EVAP System Hoses & Components

I would scope the O2 Sensors,you won't have
a scope & I don't care for a meter, as you don't
see the switching counts or time if they are old & slow

At 100,000 miles, change the ones closest to the engine

For a 40 mph issue under the slightest of vacuum load
check the Egr Valve, unplug hoses, plug them & road test
up hill

Do all your egr & coil testing on a hot day & up hills,
easy on the gas to load the engine some

The misfire codes you get on a ford are only correct about
2/3 of the time & you disregard almost all the misfire ones
You may have to walk 1 new coil until you get to the bad one

Your real issue is the idle problem
Check all vacuum items
Be nice if you could Smoke Test everything
& end that exercise

Check the cam timing before you spend days
going into the belt area

You could use a scanner to look at data, don't know if
you know anyone with one at work

My check engine light came on and I took it to get the code checked and I was told it was "misfire on start up". When I start the car it is very rough/bumpy but after sitting for about 5 mins...

Yes, this can be caused by several things. The usual problem is the Temperature sensor for the Cold Cycle Startup which speeds up the idle and enriches the fuel mix for the engine. There are 2 Water temperature sensors, one is for the dash gauge and the other is for the Engine Management system. In short, the Water sensor tells the Brain that the engine is cold and needs to run this cycle.

Both Autozone and Oreillys will scan a car for free and let you know what parts it needs. Try to get the Code number to post on this site. Sparkplugs are also a cause of cold misfires as well as slight leaks in the headgaskets. You should take it to a different place and get your car rescanned. The scanner Codes can identify an individual cylinder that is misfiring.

Bad fuel can also cause a misfire when you first start an engine. Overnight, the contaminants can settle to the bottom of the fueltank and you get a good dose when you first start the car. After the fuel circulates it is blended and you do not notice a problem in how the engine runs.

1. Start with observing if the idle is higher when cold- replace the water sensor for Brain to work
2. Get a rescan, follow their results. Check sparkplugs.
3. Put in fuel additive to remove moisture and clean fuel system.

This should solve your problem or the rescan will solve it.

Like many others, I'm having trouble with my '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 L engine and 4X4. Engine sporadically misfires, especially when coming to a stop. Sometimes dies on idle or startup....

Make sure the ignition coil drive is in proper sync. The sync should be at or close to 0. Also try an engine decarb this works great on 4.0 engines. Also if the misfire is coming for #3 there is a bulliten on installing a heat sheild around the #3 injector because it takeing a lot of heat from the exhaust mainfold that sits right under it.

Check for plugged exhaust system. If plugged will cause overheating and misfiring of all cylinders.
