A womp womp womp noise in the rear, tires are good, brakes look good, wheels are not warped, just had them balanced?

Go to a place that has a good smooth parking lot and a wooden private fence. Open all your windows and drive the car slowly as close as possible along the fence in order to pin point where the sound is coming from. The sound will echo back from the fence and will make it easier to pin point the area where the womp womp sound is coming from. Next thing you can do is lift the car up and place it on four jack stands in case you have a front wheel drive. If you have a front wheel drive and your car is on four jack stands, place you gear in nuetral and spin each rear tire separately to see which one is making the noise. Keep in mind that it might be a wheel bearing or if it a rear wheel drive and on four jack stands have someone drive it slowly while you listen for the noise. Some rear wheel drive differentials can make this noise if it is low on differial oil. Be very careful that the jack stands are on solid and making good contact with the car frame and flat on the pavement. Don't place yourself where the car can fall and hit you or run in to you. How many wheel bearings are in the 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette?


I take it the reason the bearings were changed is because of the shaking or were they making noise?

So can you feel the shake in the steering wheel or only the seat of your pants? The reason I ask is to help isolate where the shaking is coming from,, front or rear of the vehicle.

If you feel it in the steering wheel then it's in the front, seat of pants, rear.

The shake could be caused by many things. I'll assume it's the front. Possible causes;

Wheels out of balance.
Uneven torque on lug nuts.
Bent wheel.
Shifted belt in tire.
Warped brake rotors.
Rotor installed and the raised rust spot(s) on the rotor to hub interface isn't aligned with the hole(s) in the hub.
Rust on rotor braking surface.

These are the ones I have seen over the years and I'm sure there's more.

Honda crv steering wheel shake


great danger there. dont go fast.
can be tires out of balance (tire weighs feel off)
or wheel falling off (ever check the lugs)
tire bad. (bulged, delaminations , man killer tires, like Firestones)
tire rods balls, ready to fall off (more man killers)
ball joint ,ready to fail. and far far worse...
why not get the car serviced, have them check it out before.... bad happens.
noise and vibration or shaking on any machine means , doom is coming. in most cases,.

FRT END SHAKES AT ALL SPEEDS


If steering wheel shakes bad tire on front. If whole car shakes bad tire on rear. Or tires could be out of balance. If steering wheel shakes when brakes applied, front rotors are warped.

rotor would be my first shot

If touching the Brake pedakl makes the Wheel shudder and you might even feel it on the Brake pedal.. it's a front rotor

Front vibrations when braking and goes away when accelerating


Generally, vibrations occurring when you are braking are caused by warped brake rotors or drums (depending on what you have). The problem will get progressively worse the more you use the brakes. The only cure is to replace the rotors (or drums). You cannot see the warping.

Wobbling or vibration at 60-70 usually is a tire that's either thrown a weight (balancing weight) or a tire that has a broken belt (internally). Try getting the tires balanced.

When i hit the brakes or go over 60 miles the wheels will start to shake


It sounds like you may have more than one problem here. First I would investigate Front End Alignment and ALL Steering/Suspension components for excessive wear and/or looseness. Second I would Inspect the Brake Rotors and Pads for uneven wear. Third I would check the Tires for uneven wear and balance. Many things can cause these symptoms: Worn out Ball Joints, defective Shock Absorbers/Struts. Worn out Tie Rod Ends, Idler Arm, even the Steering Gear Box can be part of the problem. Brake Rotors and Tires can be out of Balance with either one causing the problem over 60 MPH. I strongly suggest having your vehicle inspected by an ASE Certified Front End and Brake specialist immediately. It is very dangerous to drive a vehicle with these symptoms.

Road noise / front end vibration


The noise you're hearing is consistent with a bad wheel bearing. It's true, the only way to actually tell is to pull the hub/bearing. I'd try to isolate what side of the car the noise is coming from and pull that wheel. If it's not a wheel bearing, it could be transmission related but these things are usually solved by replacing the wheel bearing.

Wheel shake and brake judder


what speeds are you obtaining and braking

I would think that you tires are out of balanced whether it be dabre in the rim or an improper balancing job
some cars can be fine up to 40 but when you step up the speed more the more the tires become unbalanced. making the servere shakes.
