Get the battery out from under the back seat, it won't start. Or charge.

If you have a local AutoZone (or OReilly parts) they will check
the charge or chargeabillity of your battery.........STEP 1.....no charge, normally at those places. Check to see if you have a warranty still, from where you bought it......THERE ARE MANY STEPS, BUT THAT IS FIRST.....

My battery light flashes and then my tc light is on with what looks like a wrench beside it pontiac montana

Sounds like a bad alternator. GM vehicles are notorious for failing starters, alternators and fuel pumps. If your battery light is flashing, your alternator is not putting out enough keep the battery charges and keep all of those electronics running. take a volt meter. You should get anywhere from 13.8 to 14.8 volts with your engine running and about 12 volts with everything off. Take the vehicle to your local auto parts store for a free charging system test. Advance auto parts can load test the battery and charging system.

I hooked up battery cables wrong

You will probably need to replace the battery as well as the alternator. You can have both tested at your local auto parts store. If the car won't start with a good battery attached correctly, you will probably have to replace the main fuse and/or ignition fuse, among others.

Alternator not charging batter could be wirin

Hi Andre,

Yes, it could be the wiring. It could also be the alternator or the battery.

A trip to an auto parts store could indicate which or rule them out.

Ask for a "Load Test" on the battery. This 5 sec, Pass-Fail test tells whether a battery is capable of holding a charge sufficient to start an engine.

Many auto parts stores also perform bench tests on alternators. Again, pass or fail. It's easier to check it with a multimeter. +13.5VDC or above is fine.

Best regards,
Mike

1997 ford taurus GL battery light stays on or sometimes dim alt. checks o.k. what is the problem.

When you say it check ok, can you please explain what you mean in more detail, because if your Alternator light comes on or is dim, your alternator is likely not producing enough amps to fully charge the battery. The battery may test good, but the alternator has to work too hard to keep it charged. Have a check run on the amperage output on your alternator to see if it produces the factory recommended amperage. You can get a tester or probably borrow one from Auto Zone auto parts if there is one near you. If not, you can buy an amp tested from your local auto parts store or you can take it to your local shop and they might test it for free.

No engine start or any windo raido head lights nothing

Couple of things could be wrong. I would first try to have someone jump start your car, if it stays on, probably your battery, if it does not stay on, probably your alternator. Batteries you can get just about anywhere, just bring in your old one when you make your purchase to make sure its the correct one. Alternators can run you $90 - $150 depending on engine size, new or remfurbished. Check with your local auto parts store. Also, check your fuses (under the hood and inside) and make sure your battery terminals / clamps are clean. Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
