Spark, fuel and compression are the 3 needed things.
If your friend can feel a flow of exaust at the tailpipe ,
we will assume it has compression.Pull a plug wire ,at the plug
A spare plug would be best here ,but . Even a screwdriver in
the wire and find a spot to lay it on the engine so there is like 1/4
of an inch from a good ground ,crank it and watch for spark,
if it's there ,chances are you are looking at a fuel pump.

Possibly. 1st have the battery checked though. Pull it out and have a parts store check it (free service). All the lights may work, but the battery may not have enough 'juice' to crank the engine over. Is there a click, or no sound at all? Check terminals and connection at starter also to make sure all are clean and tight.
If battery checks out as fully charged and ok, then pull the starter and have it checked out. Good luck.

Have had this problem. Solve it by reading the owner's handbook, which gives clear instructions. Do not use the key in the tailgate door before reading the instructions.

YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE RADIO AND CALL LOCAL BMW. GIVE THE SERIAL NUMBER AND THE CAN GIVE YOU THE CODE. VERY EASY TO REMOVE. FLIP TWO LITTLE FLAPS BACK ON EACH SIDE OF UNIT IN THE FRONT. WILL FIND TO VERY SMALL ALLEN BOLTS. LOOSEN BOTH AND RADIO SHOULD POP RIGHT OUT.
