Question about 2000 Ford Focus
I just bought a car and for me to turn the car on i need to get a key and put it in where the gears are at ,the previous owner used a screwdriver but i want the key, where can i find it?to be clear i have the key to turn the car on,but i need a key for the gear changes.
Hi, To get the problem solved you will need to have a new ignition installed. The new ignition will have it's own key. You can try to replace it yourself but I warn you qualified mechanics can have real problems with this so I highly recommend taking it to a professional. The ools alone will cost more then a mechanic. I suggest you purchase the part and take the car with the part to a Professional.
Thanks for choosing FIXYA

The gear selector is locked until the system detects the brake pedal is being pressed, the brake circuit then sends a signal to the shifter release solenoid to pull a pin back and let you shift out of park, this is a safety feature required by federal law, U need to have someone see if the brake lights go on when you press the pedal, if they don't check the switch at the top of the brake pedal, if the brake lights work then the little solenoid is defective.

I had a 2002 model 1.4 Fiesta, same problem Engine management light or
ECA, electronic accelaration Control (EAC), it needs a ford dealer to do
a computer diagnostic, most likely that it will need replaced.
Mt friend who is a mechanic for ford said that it was a common factory fault and is very common in 1.4 zetec /duratec petrol models.
I now have a 2007 Fusion and was quick to see if this problem had been sorted on this model, and it has!!
Hope this helps!!
