Have you tried replacing the starter? I know starters can go bad if the car is not started or run for a long time.

I am getting the same car, with the same issue.. it sat for 2 yrs and won't start.

My mechanic told me it is probably a starter.

SOURCE: wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

SOURCE: Slower Cranking And Hard Start-Up When Cold

Could maybe need a tune-up but it seem's to run fine once it start's I would start with replacing the fuel filter. It can be restricted causing fuel pressure to build up slowly causing a extended cranking condition. With the mileage i bet no one's ever changed it.On a fuel injected vehicle filter mantinance is pretty important to prevent pump damage and keep pressure at correct operating psi.

Sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed off.

Hello: WHEN IT DOESN'T START THAT IS THE TIME YOU NEED TO DIAGNOISE THE PROBLEM. A INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE NEEDS THREE THINGS TO RUN- AIR, FUEL AND SPARK. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE. CHECK FOR SPARK TO THE SPARKPLUGS. IT COULD BE THE ENGINE COMPUTER , THE IGNITION MODULE. IT COULD BE THE CRANK SENSOR. WITHOUT HANDS ON DIAGNOSIS I WOULD BE GUESSING.

2005 monte carlo seems to run rough / misfire when warm.

Remove your ignition module and take it to a parts house to be tested. This is common behavior for a failing module after it gets warm. Have them check it several times to insure it gets hot during testing.

The PO441 has to do with your HO2S 2 (Oxygen sensor). You need to check to make sure the wire is not off of the sensor and check the grounds to the Oxygen sensor. Could be a bad Oxygen Sensor. The other code has to do with your Evap system Purge solenoid circuit. Has to do with detecting an improper voltage level. Could be a shorted Purge solenoid.

97 monte carlo will not start

if you remove the battery and charge it than reinstall (make shore all lighting and non essentals are off) and if the car runs for awhile then the problem most likely is with the alternator

2002 chevrolet monte carlo

My car was doing the same thing. It would stall out while idling or even turning a corner. I ended up replacing a few sensors but the problem was the fuel injector pressure regulator. The check engine light never came on. It was leaking fuel through the vacuum side of the diaphragm. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator and if there are any traces of gasoline it needs to be replaced.
