SOURCE: My hood is stuck

the release lever is just to the right of center.
you have to push the hood down slightly to release the pressure or it will not open.you need to make a hook out of a nail thick piece of wire to get under the latch and push it up at the same time you put some downward pressure on the hood.a bent screwdriver will work fine as a pry tool as well

Cant open hood volvo 850

This is a common problem on these older Volvos. Try pulling up on the hood (after hitting the hood release in the car) and then push the latch in and then lift up again while pulling the latch out.

How do i get the hood open on a 1995 chevy caprice 5.7 if the cable is detached from the latch???

Have a helper push down on the hood close to where the latch is. You, under the front bumper, look up at dead center of hood. If you can see and reach the latch where the cable attached, either grab it with pliers and pull latch in same direction as the cable would and tell your helper to stop pushing down and the hood should pop up. A long screwdriver to pry the latch might work if you can't grab it with pliers.

I can't get my hood to open. The internal release works but the latch under the hood won't release. How can I get the hood open

While someone is pulling the thing inside the cars have someone outside the push down in the center front (where the latch is underneath) down. You may have to kind of push and release quickly. If the cable is still attached there it should release.

Where's the hood release latch under the hood?. I think it's stuck..ie:cold weather contributing to stickiness. I want to stick some WD30 lubricant to loosen it if that is the problem. I pulled the hood...

u can't get at the latch unless the hood is open, kinda a catch 22, try this, have someone push down on the hood right over the center in front, that is where the latch is, this unloads the spring tension on the latch and many times it will allow u to pop the hood, then get some WD40 and sopray the latch

Someone backed into my 1997 volvo 850 and the hood wouldn't open. There was no damage to the hood. Happened again. What is that and how to I open my hood?

IF WORSE GETS TO WORSE I BELIEVE YOU MAY CRAL IN THRU TILTING THE REAR SEATS FORWARD AND CRAWLING IN AND YOULL SEE THE MECHANISIM AND TAKE A SCREW DRIVER AND PRY IT OPEN. THEN ONCE OPEN CHECK FOR ANY MINIMAL DAMAGE OR ANY BENT LATCHES, IF SO CLOSE IT , BUT DONT SHUT IT JUST CHECK WHATS RUBBING AND THE LATCH OPERATION YOU MAY NOT SEE IT BUT SOMETHING IS BENT AND ITS CAUSING TO NOT POP OPEN BY IT SELF. GOOD LUCK

Hood latch frozen in closed position

there should be a cable coming from the driver headlamp area and going acroos to the front center of the hood. where the latch is. spray penetrating oil on the latch at the front center of the hood.

here's a typical latch for a ford.

97 850 with stuck hood

The whole mechanism is run by two cables. The first from the hood release latch to the left side hood catch. The second from the left hood catch to the right one.
First look and see if the second cable is disconnected from the left hood catch. if it is just pull it and the right should open. If not...
Have somebody with skinny arms to reach up from under the car and manually pull the lever on the right hood catch.
Hope this helps...
