I don't think they read the problem right. His charger will not hold a charge, not the car. I'm having the same problem. My charge will not charge when I plug it up to a outlet.

SOURCE: car intermittenly will not start unless you jump

Consider inspecting battery cables. They may look ok, but could be corroded and oxidized inside. If so, they have difficulty passing adequate current to starter/ground. I've always had issues with exactly this with 87 Cressida and 95 Camry.

Could be one of two things.

1. Your starter motor is no good.
2. If you turn on your lights and try to start the car and they dim to almost black, then you need to check the battery connections.

SOURCE: wont start unless jump from starter

Check the safety switch on trans to see if the power is getting to it for the start circuit. If this switch gets old and worn it will drop the voltage so much that it wont start. If it does have voltage then check the wiring to the solenoid for voltage from the battery. The solenoid wire is easy to remove and test with test ligt and a second set of eyes to watch the light when you turn switch

Is the security light flashing when you are trying to start? May have a passlock issue if the reset process did not work.

My everstart jump starter will not take a charge. I have to pull the fuse for it to quit beeping. Why won't is charge?

The unit is just a battery with connectors and it is only as good as the battery or batteries inside it. In the cheaper units the batteries are not going to last very long.

Batteries commonly fail and will not hold a charge and that is most likely the problem with your unit.

Ground wire location

does jumper cable starts fail too?
ill pretend, no.
batteries come in 3 flavors, dead and charges, or? weak?
jump starts of live engine's is another matter.

so the RED wire big goes from battery Plus to solenoid stud. big
and the minus battery lug on many cars gots to the starter mount bolt.
this is the best place for it.
on you car i dont know, and only the FSM shows that. will not show exact spot. only a schematic.
the starter can PULL 500 amps easy, but 100 is typical on a spring day. and that ground wire belongs on the starter bolt or to the
actually engine block, some way, this I am 100% sure.

Attempted to jump start my 2001 3.5 rl acura and

10gage cables?
does engine turn by hand? if not,its seized.
the starter can pull 500 amps. (if cold) its called a series wound motor.
and the harder the engine turns, the more amps and HP from this
electric motor. id turn it by hand, if you can turn the engine crank
by hand than try real jumper cable (they cost more) and if they
fail the starter is jammed, or is shorted.
starters can be dead, shorted, open, weak, or jammed.
if the engine spins, take the starter to any autostore, they test it for free.

My dodge 1500 ram 5.9 will not crank, plenty of power, starter checked, can start it if i jump from pos. battery to remote wire on starter & can pull starter relay from fuse panel & jump through it...

if you have power to the fuse and beyond, follow that circuit through the ignition ,, I'd bet thats where your problem is, its going to be the circuit that goes to the relay itself,, since thats where you seem to be having the problem,

I have a draw on my battery that read .4 amps when the vehicle was off. If the car sat overnight, it wouldnt start unless I had disconnected the negative cable from the battery, and reconnected it in the...

As a rule, .1 Amps or .2 Amps max is acceptable for the car being off.

Remember that batteries last only 3 years on average, which might explain why you had to jump the car occasionally.

I think that it was clever of you to pull fuses one by one until the multimeter read lower reading.

Wiring harnesses can look like spaghetti so if the car has a short in the system, maybe taking the vehicle to an auto electric shop would aid in diagnosing the problem if the owner has trouble finding the source of the excessive draw.

Good luck on this repair.

I would head to Wal-Mart. They'll tell you which one you need and install it for you. They will usually also check your charging system for free. Their Everstart MAXX series are excellent batteries.

2002 porches boxter -dead battery and trunk wont open to outside in the freezing chicago cold

You will have to go to the fuse panel and "jump" the hood open. There is a little nub that pulls out with a copper band. You will need to hook the positive side of the jumper cables to the nub and the negative to something metal. The hood will immediately open. Hope this helps someone else.
