In most cases, yes. First way to find out: remove upper and lower plastic covers around column behind steering wheel. This will let you see what's behind the wheel. Look for the mounting points, and associated screw heads for your T/S switch. If all can be reached and the switch will come out without steering wheel removal, it will be clear at this point. If you don't feel comfortable with the airbag and wheel removal, you can always put the covers back on, and have someone else do it. Let me know if you want directions for the entire job, I'd be glad to forward them to you. THanks, TT p.s. rank my response if you have time.

How to remove the steering wheel for replacement

SIR DISABLE:
DRIVER SIDE
Many service procedures require the air bag system to be disabled to prevent accidental deployment. The air bag system can maintain sufficient voltage to cause deployment for up to 2 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off, the battery ground cable is disconnected or the DERM fuse is removed. If the inflator module is disconnected from the deployment loop by the following procedure, service can begin immediately without waiting for the 2 minute time period to elapse.
  1. Turn steering wheel so that vehicle wheels are pointed straight ahead.
  2. Turn ignition switch to Lock position and remove key.
  3. Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
  4. Remove steering column filler panel.
  5. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and disconnect yellow two-way connector at base of steering column, Fig. 1.
PASSENGER SIDE
  1. Remove air bag fuse from fuse block.
SIR ENABLE:
Driver Side

Steering wheel adjustment , the steering whell is 90degrees off but the car does not pull eather direction. car was stolen no damage just steering whell truned

jack front of car up then turn steering wheel full lock to full lock and count the number of turns from either side then divide by 2 so you have the straight ahead position then remove the steering wheel and replace in the straight ahead position ,iam saying this because the vehicle may have been re tracked and only one track rod end adjusted so you have say 2 turns to the left and 2 and half to the right if you follow me .or remove the steering wheel then just hold it on and slowly drive forewards and lift wheel and refit to the correct position

I need instructions for replacing a 98 sunfire turn signal lamp assembly

this is the exploded view of it. you need special tools to remove the steering wheel. disconnect the batt before you start so as not to set off the airbag before you handle the air bag touch a pice of metal to make sure you discharge static electricity. when you place the air bag down set it facing up never lay it on its face. remove the upper and lower cover after you remove the steering wheel. then you can unplug and unscrew the screws holding the turn signal assembly. good luck

I need to put in another steering collum and I dont know how to do it.its a 91 ford F150.hope you can help me.I got another one out of the junk yard for 125,00 is that a good price .thanks for helping my...

I'd say $125.00 is a good price for a steering column.

First, have to remove steering wheel (but I don't have instructions for the steering column. For that, maybe try alldata.com, but that will cost):

STEERING Steering Wheel REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Without Air Bag EXCEPT F-SUPER DUTY STRIPPED CHASSIS MODELS AND MOTOR HOME CHASSIS MODELS Fig. 1: Remove the screws from behind the wheel - F-150 model without air bag 88288p12.jpg

Fig. 7: Remove the steering wheel from the shaft 88288p18.jpg
Fig. 8: Correct steering wheel installation 84928058.gif
NOTE: The factory recommends that the front wheels be set in the straight-ahead position and you paint or make chalk marks on the column and steering wheel hub for alignment purposes during installation. Of these two safeguards, it is more important to mark the column so even if the column is moved slightly, the steering wheel can still be repositioned in its original position.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the one screw from the underside of each steering wheel spoke, and lift the horn switch assembly (steering wheel pad) from the steering wheel. On vehicles equipped with the sport steering wheel option, pry the button cover off with a suitable prytool.
  3. Disconnect the horn switch wires at the connector and remove the switch assembly. On trucks equipped with speed control, squeeze the J-clip ground wire terminal firmly and pull it out of the hole in the steering wheel. Don't pull the wire out without squeezing the clip.
  4. Remove the horn switch assembly.
  5. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut and remove the steering wheel with a puller. WARNING
Never hammer on the wheel or shaft to remove it! Never use a knock-off type puller.
  6. Install the steering wheel in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the shaft nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)

CAUTION
Read the air bag service precautions in Section 6 prior to doing work involving an air bag equipped steering column component. Always wear safety glasses when servicing an air bag vehicle and handling the air bag to avoid possible injury.
  1. Turn the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.
  2. Disconnect the battery-to-starter relay cable for at least one minute to let the air bag back-up power supply discharge.
  3. Remove the air bag module from the steering wheel (refer to Section 6).
  4. Disconnect the horn/speed control wiring from the steering wheel.
  5. Remove the steering wheel retaining bolt.
  6. Install the Differential Bearing Cone Remover/Replacer, No. T77F-4220B1, or equivalent, and remove the steering wheel. Route the contact assembly harnesses through the steering wheel as it is lifted off of the shaft. To install: NOTE: Make sure the front wheels are still in the straight-ahead position prior to installation.
  7. Route the air bag sliding contact wiring through the steering wheel at the 3 o'clock position. Position the steering wheel on the shaft an align the marks. Make sure not to pinch the contact wire. WARNING
Make sure no air gets trapped between the steering wheel and air bag sliding contact.
  8. Install a new steering wheel retaining bolt, then tighten to 23-33 ft. lbs. (31-45 Nm).
  9. Connect the horn/speed control wiring and clip in place. Connect the air bag wire harness. Tighten the module retaining nuts to 35-53 inch lbs. (4-6 Nm). NOTE: When the battery cable has been disconnected, then reconnected, some abnormal driving symptoms may occur for the first 10 miles (16 km) until the PCM re-learns it adaptive strategy.
  10. Connect the battery to starter cable. Verify the air bag warning indicator light on the instrument panel.

How do you repair or replace a wiper switch. I want to know how to disassemble the housing

STEERING Steering Wheel REMOVAL & INSTALLATION All Series CAUTION
When performing service around the SIR system components or wiring, the SIR system MUST be disabled. Failure to do so could result in possible air bag deployment, personal injury or unneeded SIR system repairs.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. On models equipped with a drivers side air bag, perform the following procedure:
    1. Disable the Supplemental Restraint System (if equipped).
    2. On all but 1996–98 models equipped with a air bag, unfasten the screws at the rear of the steering wheel.
    3. On 1996–98 models equipped with a air bag, turn the steering wheel 90° to access the rear shroud holes to the inflator module. Insert a screwdriver in the holes and push the leaf spring to release the pin. Turn the steering wheel 180° to access the remaining shroud holes and using the screwdriver, release the remaining pins.
    4. Tilt the inflator module rearward from the top to access the wiring. Tag and unplug the lead wire from the clip on the module, the lead wire from the clip on the steering wheel and the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and retainer from the module.
  3. If not equipped with a drivers side air bag, remove the horn pad or button cap and disconnect the horn wires. Fig. 1: Remove the horn button cap 87988p13.jpg
Fig. 2: Disengage the horn wiring 87988p14.jpg
Fig. 3: If equipped, remove the snapring from the steering shaft 87988p15.jpg

  4. Mark the steering wheel-to-steering shaft relationship.
  5. If equipped, remove the snapring from the steering shaft.
  6. Remove the nut from the steering shaft. WARNING
Don't hammer on the steering shaft!
  7. Remove the steering wheel with a puller. To install:
  8. Install the wheel. The turn signal control assembly must be in the Neutral position to prevent damaging the canceling cam and control assembly. Tighten the nut to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  9. Install the horn pad and horn contact (if equipped).
  10. If equipped with a drivers side air bag, install the inflator module as follows:
    1. Attach the lead wire to the clip on the module, the lead wire to the clip on the steering wheel and the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and retainer to the module.
    2. On 1996–98 models, install the inflator module by pressing it firmly into the steering wheel so that all four notched pins in the leaf spring are fully engaged. Be very careful that you do not pinch any wires.
    3. On all but 1996–98 models equipped with a air bag, install the inflator module and tighten the screws to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  11. Connect the battery ground cable and enable the SIR system (if equipped). Fig. 4: Remove the nut and washer from the steering shaft 87988p16.jpg

How do remove and replace the ignition switch of a 1983 Oldsmobile Regency?

First disconnect neg batt cable, don't forget this or possible air bag deployment.
Remove airbag screws behind steering wheel.unplug the plug for bag and horn. Remove steering wheel nut.pull wheel. usually you can grab both sides of wheel and vigorously **** one side and then the other or use a puller.

Notice two marks on wheel and shaft for reinstall line them up.now you are looking at a white turn sig switch.remove the screws remove sig lever pull straight up on switch enough to lay aside out of your way. Now there is a lockplate there.you will need to press down on plate and remove lock ring (they make a tool for this called lock plate depressor) remove plate. There is a torx screw right in front of you remove this. Now lock will pull out.

Good luck.

Air bag remove 98 gmc sonoma

It's unlikely the turn signal switch. Try disconnecting the switch mounted directly above the brake pedal. If the light turns off the problem is in the brake switch. They commonly go bad and can be picked up at a gm dealer for about $15.

How can i remove the airbag for a pontiac sunfire 1997

I assume you mean drivers air bag. Disconnect battery. There are 2 screws in the back of the wheel center plastic I believe 8mm. Undo both screws and the bag will lift out to wires. Then just disconnect the bag wire and the horn wire plug and the bag is out. There is a safety clip that needs to pop out before the bag wire will disconnect. If you are familiar with doing this a bag removal taks 5 minutes.
