Question about 1998 Cadillac Catera
My car suddenly started missing bad while setting in a drive thru. Check engine light started flashing and now stays on. We drove it home with the missing not so bad until you get up to about 50mph. Spark plugs are not fouled and plugs and wires are about a year old. We can not aford to take to a garage. My husband can fix it he just knew what it was. Please help.
I'm not a mechanic but from experience I suggest that before you start with repairs, start with the fuel. You may have either picked up some dirty gas when last filled up or just stirred something up in the tank. Try a fuel cleaner from any auto parts store. Also, and this is probably not realated, the check engine light may come on if your gas cap is not tight. Good Luck

Did you recently have a loss of power to the car? change the battery? if so, you need to reset your system. My husband and I just figured this out this weekend. His sunroof hasn't worked in two years and it turns out you have to reset all the power options in the car. Google 2000 cadillac catera %calibrate ETC% loss of power, you'll find the step by step instructions for recalibrating the car's computer and resetting the power options

Testimonial: "WE DID THE JOB NEEDED TO REPLACE PLUG WIRES ALSO. REMOVED CENTER HEAD [INTAKE] AND CAM COVERS BY REPLACING GASKETS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. "
Yes, most likely a fault in the auto transmission, and the car has shut itself off to prevent further damage.
