Question about 1999 Chevrolet K1500

93 cavalier starts sometimes other times completely dead

My car sometimes starts fine and other times it is completely dead. It makes a little winning sound. If I mess with the key or lift the hood and wiggle wires it eventually starts, except for today. The lights and engine lights stay on when I turn the key all the way. Does anyone know what this could be?
Thanks for any response.

Well i would have the battery checked. For now i would try and remove and clean the battery connections and make sure they are tight.

Car will not start

this doesn't sound good at all. if you couldn't jump start it within a few minutes, you should have stopped right there. maybe you were jumpping the car wrong, from doing so, you may have fried the computer, that rounds your entire engine. try installing a new battery, if any codes were stored in the computer, clear them out. some times just removing the battery cables for a few minutes will do this . sometimes not. try to start the engine. donot jump start, see if will start on its own. if not, seek professional help, keep blaming goodyear until you get results !!!!!!

My volvo 960 1997 wagon at times won't start. when I try to start it, it's like the battery is completely dead, but the battery is fine. what is making it do this ?

Depends on your definition of completely dead.
Do the lights work, but no crank ?
Can you jump start the car ?
A mechanic would check for voltage at the battery, the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch, along with the ground connections to the engine.

the 'no lights' part makes me think it could be a bad ground -- follow the ground cable from the battery where it should connect with the chassis then continue on the the engine itself -- make sure it's very firmly connected at each point (battery end as well)

Theft light

Make sure it isnt a copied key,it has to be the key that came with it. Has a little built in chip. But most of them have problems with the fuel pump relay.

My 93 cavalier would usually start and sometimes won't start. When it doesn't start it does not turn over it's pretty much dead, except it makes a little winning sound that stops after a second. The lights...

My guess would be your starter. But I hate to say it you may need to get it to a shop and have them test it. You can also call Auto Zone if you have one in the area and see if they can test starters....if so it's free if you can get it there.
