How do i change a waterpump on a 2001Volkswagen cabrio?

Your Cabrio has one of several 2.0L Volkswagen engines - determine your engine type from the
8th digit of your VIN, which will be either an "A", or "C",both are 2.0L engines.

Volkswagen 2.0L engines offered in 2001:
(a) 2.0L (Aba) Engine
(b) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdc/Bev/Bgd) Engine
(c) 2.0L (Aeg/Avh/Azg/Bdf) Engine

For completeness, I've included the water pump maintenance manual entries for all (3) 2.0L VW
engines offered in 2001. Note that the instructions below include (3) illustrations, which are
reproduced faithfully from the manual, but the last (2) illustrations are identical, since the last two
engines in the list above are virtually identical.

1994 Caravan 3.0 how to install the water pump

This is a very complex job that should probably be done by a professional. If you really want to do it yourself, I would highly recommend buying a proper manual. The water pump is driven by the timing belt which is underneath the plastic front cover of the engine. To change the pump, you'll have to remove the front (right side) motor mount bracket, the power steering pump, the plastic timing belt cover, the timing belt and tensioner, then the pump, which is mounted to a housing that is held on to a tube that runs under the intake manifold. Quite often the bolts are rusted to the water pump housing and some care is required when separating and replacing the pump and housing.

How to replace a powersterling pulley on 1999 dodge grand caravan

The procedure to remove the power steering pulley out of the 1999 dodge caravan engine is as follows:----

· First disconnect the black, negative cable from the battery.

· Then Take off the windshield wiper module.

· Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack.

· Then from underneath the vehicle remove the drive belt splash shield .

· Locate the power steering pump bracket and--working from underneath the car--loosen the through bolt; then remove the pressure hose routing bracket.

· Place a catch pan on the floor, underneath the power steering pump fluid reservoir, and siphon as much steering fluid from the tank; then remove the pressure and fluid supply hoses from the pump.

· Take off the rear pump mounting bolt and front mounting bolts through the pulley. Make sure to grab and keep the spacer located between the pump and mounting bracket once you remove the bolts.

· Take the pump and pulley assembly over the aluminum bracket and out of the engine.

Reinstall all parts and new pulley in reverse.

There is a leak in the bypass hose spout behind the

I have a perminent better solution to this problem. The broken part is out there however, its on "back order". The fix that I have done is to remove the water pump and "punch" out the broken piece from above. Then use a 3/8" pipe thread tap and put threads in that hole. Go to your nearest auto parts house and purchase a "heater hose nipple". Then, with a deep well socket and a long extention, thread the nipple in. Install the hose and clamp it at both ends. You can tap that hole because its cast aluminum.

LOCATE WATER PUMP AND LOOSEN 3 PULLEY MOUNTING BOLTS (THIS IS WHILE BELT IS ON PULLEY) REMOVE SURPENTINE BELT AND CONTINUE TO FULLY REMOVE THE PUMP PULLEY. IT WONT COME OUT AS THE PUMP & PULLEY HAVE TO COME OUT TOGEATHER. REMOVE 5 WATER PUMP BOLTS AND CAREFULLY WORK WATER PUMP OUT BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE FRAME. CLEAN ALL MATING/GASKET SURFACES AND BOLTS. USING A SMALL AMOUNT OF TACKY SEALENT TO INSURE THE NEW WATER PUMP SEAL STAYS IN PLACE, THE INSTALL IS PRITTY MUCH THE REVERSAL OF REMOVAL.

GOOD LUCK, REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS TO MFR SPECS AND BLEED THE AIR OUT OF THE COOLANT AS REQUIRED.

Water pump is bad

Minivans like the Caravan have a heavy workload. No, they don't haul heavy farm equipment, but they do caddy kids and groceries in stop-and-go traffic five to six days a week. This type of driving is hard on the water pump, which cools the minivan's engine. If your water pump goes out, you can follow some simple directions to install a new one.

Take Out the Old Pump Step1 Open the hood and use a screwdriver to unscrew the clamp that connects the negative battery cable to the battery post. Remove the cable. Step2 Lift up the Caravan with a jack and use the jack stands to shore it up. You also need something to support the engine, like an engine support bar or lift, so you can remove the engine mounts. Step3 Uncap the radiator's cap slowly to release pressure. Locate the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, just behind the grill. Place an empty container under the drain plug, remove the plug using an adjustable wrench and drain the radiator. Step4 Mark in grease pencil on the timing belt its position in each pulley before removal. This will save time during reinstallation. However, if you need to replace the timing belt, then you can skip this part. Step5 Disconnect or remove the parts in front of the water pump. In order, these include: right inner splash shield, accessory drive belts, right motor mount and bracket, front cover, timing belt, timing belt idler pulley, camshaft sprockets, timing belt rear cover, alternator and bracket. Step6 Twist off the bolts securing the water pump to the engine using the adjustable wrench. Remove the pump, o-ring and any sealant pieces from the engine block.

Put in the New Pump Step1 Place high temperature automotive sealant on the new water pump, in a position that coordinates to the o-ring groove. Position the o-ring over the sealant on the pump and hold it in place as you mount the new water pump on the side of the Caravans engine. Step2 Insert the new bolts into the holes. Tighten the bolts, using the torque tightening measurements that vary by the engine. A 3.0L engine uses 20 foot pounds of torque to secure these bolts, while the 2.4L, 3.3L and 3.8L engines need 105 inch pounds torque tightening. Step3 Reconnect the other engine parts in the order they came off the Caravan, tightening key components with a torque wrench to the proper torque. The water pump pulley bolts require 250 inch pounds torque. On the right mount, the frame rail bolts need 50 foot pounds, 75 foot pounds and 111 foot pounds torque for the vertical and horizontal fasteners respectively. The camshaft sprocket bolts need 75 foot pounds and the timing belt idler pulley bolt 45 foot pounds torque. Step4 Replace the timing belt, using your grease pencil marks as a guide. Finish reconnecting the other parts. Step5 Reinstall the drain plug and refill the radiator with the amount and type of coolant specified in your owner's manual. Remove the engine support, jack and jack stands. Attach the negative battery cable to the post and tighten the screw on the clamp. Step6 Start the engine and check for leaks. Then, close the hood and take the van on a test drive.

There may be variations in the parts to remove to get to the water pump, which varies with engine size. Step 5 details all the parts you may encounter in your Caravan, but your particular minivan may have fewer items to remove.

Please rate and god bless

Ticking sound on 2001 dodge grand caravan 135000mi

Turns out it was the water pump. The plastic impeller on the inside had broken in half- split almost right down the middle. there was just enough of the impeller remaining to attach to the shaft and pump water. Apparently, it was pumping enough to keep the temp under control. So, I never noticed it overheating. The piece that had broken off had gotten lodged in a recessed area inside the pump housing. The ticking noise was being generated as the intact half of the impeller rotated and hit the broken off half.

I narrowed down the problem by removing the belt and cranking the engine temporarily. With the belt off and the pump not turning, the sound was gone. I could spin the pump pulley by hand and faintly hear the noise.

A new pump cost me $35 and took about two and a half hours to replace.
