My 2006 Kia Sorento is having the same problem, when you try to unlock it, it locks back up instantly. I locked my keys in the car about a year ago and the locksmith had so much trouble getting my car unlocked because of this issue he actually asked me if I would be mad if he broke my window, the issue since then has gotten progressively worse and is so bad now I have to open the glass on the hatch back and climb through the car, very annoying! Any suggestions would be helpful.

I take it that this is the only door that does not work. This being the case does the door sound as if the electric motor is working inside the door? When you try to unlock with the key does the key turn and nothing happens? If this be the case then a plastic clip that joins the key lock arm and the lockmechanism is likly to be broken requiring trim removall and replacing parts not very expensive but hard to get out. I find removing four bolts holding seat in position and removing the seat is the easy way

SOURCE: my drivers side door wont

Hi

This is probably a broken spring on the door latch. Remove the driver's door inner panel, put the window fully up look at the lock mechanism and linkages and with the lock unlocked maneuver the lock linkages to open the door.

However you need to clarify if you mean open the door or unlock the door. It sounds like you mean unlock the door. First I think you probably need a new key. When the door is locked and you are inside the car. Pull on the inside door handle. That is supposed to unlock all the doors. the second time you pull on the handle it should open the door. If you can't get anything to work by pressing down on the knob in the door you probably need a new lock acatuator. You can't swap left to right. it doesn't work that way. the lock actuator is a rectangular black box that clips onto the top of the lock. Try disconnecting the wires to it and see if that helps.

If you can't open the door by using either handle or key, the actuator and likely the lock mechanism will need replacing because it is the lock mechanism that hooks into the door handle.Furthermore, if you can't open the door with the key, then the door handle components or just the tumbler is likely not lubricated enough. You may also need a new tumbler for the door handle. This doesn't need to be drilled out. Its actually pretty easy to swap tumblers once you get the handle out of the car.

SOURCE: Driver's side front seat will not recline

Hi there, T,

If the gears in the motor assembly are stripped, you will hear the motor running when you turn the switch on. To put it simply, NOBODY can tell you which it is without diagnosing the problem. There are separate motors for each of the seat movements. So yes, a failed motor COULD be the problem. However, my experience with electric seat problems indicates that there are usually broken wires involved.

Things get put under the seats like umbrellas, kids toys, CD storage boxes, etc.. and they get caught in the wiring under the seats. Motor failures are fairly rare, but they do happen. I would say that the most likely cause is a broken wire with a bad control switch running a close second.

Personally, how I would go about this is to unbolt the seat from the floor and tip it back to see if there is anything obvious. If there is nothing that just jumps right out at me (like shredded wires or the long-lost Happy-Meal toy jammed in the mechanism), I would begin electrical testing to find the cause (the seat has to be tipped back to do this anyway - so, no labor lost here).

2009 chevy equinox rear passenger door won't unlock with remote

Lock/unlock motor may be failing. Remove the door panel and remove the connector from the lock motor. Check the dc voltage at the connector while pressing the lock switch. If you see battery voltage, replace the motor. If the voltage is low, inspect the wiring.

Car doors wont lock with key the lock motor in back door wont turn off until you unlock the drivers door with the key

Hi,

Part of your post "car doors wont lock with key" initially seems to be a mechanical problem. You could try opening the door panel, perform cleaning to remove dirt, accumulated dust and possibly rust and spray with general purpose lubricant such as WD40.

Your other concern "lock motor in back door wont turn off until you unlock the drivers door with the key" sounds like an electrical problem but may be interrelated to the locking problem of above. Pls try the cleaning as above described and additionally check if there are any switches that may likewise be affected by any dirt/rust.

For a possibly more detailed solution, perhaps you could post back the year and exact model of your Ford vehicle.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Back door wont open i dont know why i already tryed to open it from the out side and in side

Sounds like it won't unlock as the power lock motor may have failed. You need to remove the inside door panel to get to the lingage and disconnect the lock motors linkage and it may unlock and open. If not the latch itself other links may have come off. Work the arms an see if it'll open after that doesn't wrk the stricker bolt can be removed thought the latch and with it unscrewed as far as you can the door can be forced open so you can change the latch.

My 1995 camry xle v6 driver door wont unlock.

i just had this same problem. it was the lock assembly. the spring had broken on it and the lock was halfway unlocked and locked. so it would not move, therefor the door was stuck shut neither locked nor unlocked, but with no way to open it. so we had to manually unlock the door with a stick between the door panel and the window. then we were able to take off the whole door panel and fix the problem. but by this time, its probably easier just to buy a whole new door. hope it helps

I heard a pop when rolling my power window up. And now it wont roll up at all.

sounds like an electrical short in your door panel. open your door. take your door panel off and look for any crossed wires that may have caused your window motor to short out. you will need a new power window motor if this happened. good luck

All doors will not unlock

Try replacing the ECC fuse on the drivers side fuse panel. This seems to control quite a bit of the rear electronics.

Drive Door lock only works manually

That remote is not factory equipt., right? It seems like it is a classical unlock-a-door-and-the-electronics-will-do-the-rest kind of power lock. So maybe the motor is used only as a sensor.
Or did it function before??? If not and the dealership sold you the car this way, tell them that they've mounted an aftermarket remote lock and forgot to have it done properly and refuse to pay, as it's their fault.
If it functioned well before than maybe go to a car electrician or better a car security specialist dealing with alarms and electronic door-lock systems. You can have it done 250(including labor) anywhere! even at NASA

Doors wont all lock at the same time on my '95 saab 9000cs. i have to manually lock them individually. My dashboard lights flicker, sometimes the lights will stay on and sometimes i have to tap the switch...

When you use your remote or insert your key in the Drivers Front door all the door locks should work at the same time by the door lock motors electrically. If you have to manually unlock the door because it will not lock or unlock by the lock motor, you need a door lock motor. The drivers and passengers front doors can unlocked with the key manually only. The rear doors you have to pull up the latch.
If NONE of doors unlock electrically with the remote or drivers door lock, intermittently or all the time, you will need a Central Locking Electronic Control Module. Pressing the remote button you will hear the "beep", but no door locks will fire at all.
If you have a few odd door locks not working intermittently or not at all, you will need a new door lock motor for each door lock that malfunctions. You can hear if the door locks are working electrically. Yes, they are common problem.
If you can hear the door lock motor working but the door still doesn't unlock you need to take the door panel off and lubricate the door latch assembly and work the lock, loosening it up. This is common as well.
Sometimes a bad door lock motor can blow the central locking fuse. You will notice it because it will take a second or two longer to lock and unlock compared to the others. If the door lock motors seem fine, install a the next step up in amperage fuse. (From 15 AMP to a 20 AMP)
