Question about 1996 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
After sritching off engine keeps running. If Istall the engine dashboard indicators remain on
Had this before and if iam not mistaken then the alternator is feeding the ignition circuit keeping the thing running ,Now in this case i had a faulty wiring problem ,just under the bonnet by the power distribution box the cables were rubbing, but another one i had the same problem with it was the contact switch on the steering lock ,their is electrical contacts with ball bearing and little springs and they had worn out and collapsed staying connected ,As this is a merc to get a new switch unit which is complete with the steering lock i had to produce the owners passport and identity number with a utility bill to even order one .

This can not be reset by conventional methods. This must be done through a scan tool. Usually only the dealer scan tool will communicate with the SRS module. If the SRS light is on you have other issues and they must be remedied before the light will go out. There is no way of knowing what the issue is without running codes with the scan tool.

If you have electric folding mirrors fold them in, if not fold the mirror back against the spring (not easy as it is quite strong). Looking from the front, to the mirror cover side of the spindle on which the mirror pivots if you pull it forward, you will see the end of the main mirror body which has a groove it it. At the end of the groove there is a springclip which can prised up using a flat bladed screwdriver. It is easiest to place the blade under the clip and twist the clip to release it. Once fully released the cover can then be withdrawn. Refitting is the reverse of the above but if the cover does not automatically clip in place you may have to force it back with the screwdriver.
