Trace the wires coming off the pos(+) batt terminal should be red most of the time depending on vehicle their located on side of motor right before bellhousing on transmission also check an make sure when you turn the key your wires are not getting hot sometimes you can take a screwdriver to the starter bolts an start the engine not sure be much help but worth a shot

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is faulty. Slamming the shifter into Park has temporarily solved the condition for some, but the switch may have to be replaced.

There is a solenoid that normally connects the two wires that you manually connected. They do go bad and if they are the replaceable typ an inexpensive fix.

Starter wiill not even engage turned the key on and nothing ran fine when I parked it and got up in the morning and wont even tur n over. Brand new battery

Hmm, possible problems:
- starter or starter solenoid defective.
- neutral switch or wiring thereto defective. Shift selector has to be in Park or Neutral to start. Sometimes brake pedal has to be pressed also for starter to turn.
- remote starter system defective (if you have this) This would be hard to diagnose.
I would first confirm if the starter works by putting 12V directly from positive pole on battery to positive connector on starter solenoid (use jumper cable, and wear goggles in case of massive sparking when you accidentally touch ground.)

Grand Am 4cyl was fine tried to leave after a sjprt time ;ater starter didn't clich or make any noise battery checks 12.6 volts what's wrong?

Check connections at the battery and the starter. Check fuses. Ensure the vehicle is in park(automatic trans) or neutral(manual trans). If you're still having the problem, try starting in neutral-if it starts; possible shifter cable misadjustment, or faulty neutral safety switch. If the starter is hot afer attempting, suspect faulty starter.

Could it be a starter? does the engine turn?

The truck will not shift into park all the way i shut it off and got the key out now it wont start the starter is not turning over at all as if it were in gear.

There is a safety switch that disables the starter unless the trans is in Park or Neutral. If it is not fully in Park, that may not be activated. Try putting it in Neutral, you may be able to start it there. But you also need to find out why it won't shift fully into Park. Maybe the linkage is binding, or maybe it is just misadjusted.

2003 BMW 330ci - battery is good buy starter wont engage even though lights and eltronics are fine.

Just because the light come on and the electronics work doesn't mean the battery has enough of a charge. Some systems won't engage the starter unless it has over 9.6 volts. Try charging or jump starting and see if it makes a difference. If you can find the started make sure the wires aren't loose and you can try and tap on the stater while someone else is trying to start it. First thing I would try is to see if it will start in neutral. Sometimes when you put it into park the safety switch doesn't get fully depressed

Hi, I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. Runs great, but lately, one time out of 10 it wont start. I can hear the relay, but it doesn't even try and turn over. Then i Put it in neutral, or rock the truck and it...

If shifting into neutral works you may have a damaged parking safety switch. Some vehicles have one for neutral and one for park.

Be sure to check your battery and starting system too. A weak battery or worn starter solenoid are also likely causes.

Good luck and be careful!

Car wont start

try to start it in neutral. the trans. has a safety switch that will not allow the car to start in anything, but park and neutral. sometimes the shift lever gets a little out of line with the gear indicator. also try firmly shifting into and out of park a few times. this may flip the switch. good luck

New starter.new battery.all electrical works lights, gauges, radio, wipers etc but van wont start.no cranking sound just slight click uinder washer reservoir behind battery

there is not just one thing that can cause this problem. it could be in the ignition switch, it could be the wiring from switch to starter relay, could be the neutral safety switch. i can tell you a quick and dirty way to test this, have to be careful if you do it. put the vehicle in park, make sure it's in park, otherwise it will roll when you do this and you could get run over by your own vehicle. now you will need a set of jumper cables. make sure you can get to the hot side terminal of starter, one jumper cable contact has to go there. the other side has to go to hot (positive) side of battery. if when you tap the jumper cable to the hot side of starter the starter cranks just like it should then you have a wiring problem. if that's the result you get try jiggling the gear selector around and cranking ignition, or try starting it in neutral. if that makes a difference, if it cranks in neutral or if you move gear selector around when it's in park, then you probably have a bad neutral safety switch. if that doesn't make a difference but you are able to get it to crank by jumping straight from battery to starter then you have a wiring problem in ignition system. hope that helps
