Just bought a 99 explorer that needs a timing chain replaced. im trying to get a diagram and directions on replacing it. it is a 4.0 4x4
It needs a special tool from ford the kit is 500 i think. used engine is cheap u can also put a 98 or 97 motor if its cheaper change the valve cover and intake also fly wheel exhaust manifold from the bad motor. i have done it works every time.

If you can not find a Haynes or Chilton Manual for sale in your local parts store, you should check your local library, they may have the manual or repair (shop) manual that you can copy pages from for your use. This way you will have pictures.

you need a repair manual, Haynes or Chilton, there are too many places to explain here in this format, if you can not find these book at your local parts store, then try your local library, then sometimes even have the dealer shop manuals for your use, hope this helps

not press fitted, standard tapered bearings, if 4X4 it is a little more involved, just dont misplace any of the smaller parts and you will be fine.

I suggest that you check out the autozone.com website and register the car there. It doesn't cost anything and will give you access to an online repair manual for the car. The steps for replacing the timing chain can be found there. ( I checked ). Sure hope this helped and best wishes.
