SOURCE: like piston slap
in this car piston slap is normal and will not cause any further damage to the engine, almost all LT 1 and LT 5 have this issue as long as it goes away after engine heats up, this comes from a GM service bulletin. and no the oil pump has nothing to do with this, cylinder walls are splashed by oil.

Rebuilding the engine is the only true cure. Be sure that the engine warms up without driving it. In other words, don't put any excessive load on the engine while it is cold. Once it warms up, the piston, rings, pins, etc. will expand from the heat. This is why you only hear slapping when the engine is cold.

Right try again as programme keeps crashing on me ,look on the crank and make sure that the big end shell with the hole in it is fitted to the con rod and not the end cap as this stop oil being sprayed up the bore ,but i would need to strip the engine myself to see exactly what went wrong ,just scrapped a nice one of these diesel with manual box owing to UK number plates here in spain and as a RHD version and clasification as a commercial vehicle it cannot be imported in spain only cars not commercials
