Question about Cars & Trucks
Trying to find a transfer case that will interchange with a 99 Ford Explorer 5.0
I don't know ---but I will suggest that you repair yours
I once owned a trans repair shop & I don't suggest
you get caught up in salvage yard parts, when yours
is not that hard to open up or fix.
If you don't do all your own work, then I'm the wrong
guy to impose my thoughts

SOURCE: transfer case noise
is your universal joints out and that is where its rubbing?
running different size tires on a all wheel drive is a big mistake it can burn out the transfercase

Depends on the case. Was the fluid that you drained red or blue? If it was red, ATF. It was blue then Autotrac, The auto 4 wheel drive model require Autotrac.

On your 99 model the module is located behind the left quarter trim panel,mid-way.You maybe able to see it by removing the speaker cover or the cupholder on top. The module will have a sticker with a 5 digit code.
On the 04 the model is behind the right quarter trim panel toward the front about even with the right rear door stricker.
