Question about Ford F

1 Answer

As I started my car to head out from my girlfriends house back to my place, my car battery light came on and the engine temperature soared to above the high point into the red zone. As I approached a set of red traffic lights, my car stalled. I was able to restart the car and continue on home, still with the temerature pushed to the very edge. After a 3 kilometre journey, I finally got home, turned everything off. Before I set out to go to my girlfriends, my water/coolant levels were still at the peak. However, for some reason I have not found traces of a coolant leak, however there is some brown (rust colour) residue on some parts of the car. I have not found any traces of a fan belt leaving my car. I am currently unsure of my coolant levels. My car is a ford falcon GLI 1992 with over 300,000 km. Thank you for any help.

2003 Chevy Malibu where is the coolant temperature switch

2.2L (L61) Engine
The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is located just to the left of the exhaust manifold in the thermostat housing between the two coolant pipes.

3.5L (LZ4) & 3.9L (LZ9) Engine
The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is located on the left cylinder head at the rear. It is just above the transaxle mounting bolts.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

Where is the thermostat located on golf v1 1999 1.6,car been standing 6 months worked fine now water not circulating!!!!!!

Heed of antifreeze coolant temperature!!!
First time you might check the thermostat operating.
The thermostat location for VW Golf 1.6 is inside of coolant thermostat housing placed on back side of the cylinder head. See pictures below.
Thermostat checking:
1. Cold engine. Start up the engine and watch of the water temp indicator. After first value 60 Celsius Degree you still warm up the engine until the lifter (pointer) reach 80 C deg. (second mark after 60 C deg.). At this time you let engine running at idle speed and check with your hand the thermostat plastic housing and hose temperature in bottom left side of the engine. Heed of alternator driving belt and ventilator fan !!!
2. If the thermostat is good the hose must be cold until the water temp indicator reach almost 90 C deg.
3. The thermostat opening temperature is 87 C deg.
4. If the hose is already warm the thermostat is out of order.

Thermostat location, Part number: 032121110B, in german - "Kuehlregle" (Price around $20):

Important note: Always replace the thermostat round seal, position 6 in the above picture.

Where Is thermostat located on 1994 escort 1.9 motor

On almost all cars if you follow the upper radiator hose to where it goes into the motor, that is where the termostate is.

Where is the thermostat ?

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . These are generic instructions. Specific instructions are provided below. If you get stuck, please get back to me.

jturcotte_209.gif

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the radiator to below the level of the thermostat.
  2. If necessary, remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. If necessary, disconnect the coolant temperature switch at the thermostat housing.
  1. Remove the upper radiator hose.
  2. Remove the mounting nuts, thermostat housing, thermostat and gasket.

Do not pry the housing off.
To install:
  1. Clean the thermostat housing and the cylinder head mating surfaces.
  2. Insert the thermostat into the rear cylinder head housing with the jiggle pin at the top. The spring side of the thermostat should face the housing.
  3. Position a new gasket onto the studs with the seal print side facing the rear cylinder housing.
  4. Install the thermostat housing and 2 nuts. Tighten the nuts to 14-22 ft. lbs. (19-5 Nm).
  5. Install the upper radiator hose.
  6. If detached, connect the coolant temperature switch.
  7. If removed, install the air cleaner housing.
  8. Fill the cooling system. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks. Check the coolant level and add coolant, as necessary.

How to replace thermostat on 1998 Maza b2500

I have generic instructions here: http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat

Specific instructions from autozone.com are below

2.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Disconnect the heater return hose at the thermostat housing.
  2. Disengage the ECT sensor and engine coolant temperature sender wiring connectors.
  3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing connection.
  4. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the housing from the cylinder head.
  5. Remove the thermostat and gasket from the housing.
  6. Clean both thermostat gasket mating surfaces.

To install:
  1. Position the thermostat gasket properly onto the housing. The gasket must be in place before the thermostat is installed.
  2. Install the thermostat into the housing by first turning and then locking into the recess of the housing.
  3. Position the thermostat and housing onto the mating surface of the cylinder head. Install and tighten the retaining bolts to 14-21 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  4. Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing connection.
  5. Connect the ECT sensor and engine coolant temperature sender wiring harnesses.
  6. Connect the heater return hose to the thermostat housing.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Fill the radiator and operate the engine until it reaches operating temperature. Check the coolant level and adjust as necessary.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located in a 2003 yukon denali awd 6.0. thanks in advance

Follow the top radiator hose to where it meets the engine. This is known as the thermostat housing, the sensor will be either screwed into that (also look on the underside the housing) or within 4" of the housing.

It is the standard place for that sensor as it is the hottest water point of an engine.

Best regards

Location of the temperature sending unit on a 1991 olds toronado

Ok, you have three sensors on this engine that work together to manage the temperature reading that are sent to the gauge. i recommend checking all three to be safe. i will list the sensors and, locations below.

1. Coolant temperature sensor- Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, above transmission bell housing, mounted in driver side end of intake manifold.

2. Engine Temperature sensor- Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, mounted on rear cylinder head

3. Temperature switch.- Under hood, center, lower engine area, above oil filter, rear of coolant temperature sensor, mounted in engine block
