Removal & Installation

2.2L Engine

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following: Negative battery cableIntake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connectorPositive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve and hoseAir intake assemblyUpper radiator hoseAccessory drive beltExhaust front pipeAlternator and bracketsCrankshaft Position (CKP) sensor connectorKnock sensor connectorHeater hosesWater bypass hoseFuel linesEvaporative Emissions (EVAP) valve connectorCanister hoseIntake manifoldEngine wiring harness connectors at left rear of the engine compartmentPower steering pump pressure switch connectorFront coverSpark plugs and wiresCamshaft Position (CMP) sensorValve coverTiming belt. The 6VE1W 3.5L DOHC 24V V6 was introduced in 1998 with 215 hp (160 kW) and used until 2004 with the termination of the Isuzu Axiom. Gasoline direct injection was added for 2004 only and boasted output to 230 hp (172 kW). This was a stroked version of the 6VD1.

here you go cylinder head 47 ft lbs, rocker cover 80 in lbs, camshaft caps 89 in lbs, intake 18 ft lbs.

CAM SHAFT BEARING CAPS 15 FT LBS. DRIVE SPROCKET BOLT 58 FT LBS. CAMSHAFT END PLAY IS 0.006 in. WARNING THIS IS THE 2.8L ENGINE WHEN TORQUEING CAM SHAFT BEARING CAPS YOU HAVE TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS 2 TURNS AT A TIME IN A DIAGONAL PATTERN TO DRAW THE CAMSHAFT DOWN AGAINST THE VALVE SPRING.

Torque the cylinder head bolts to eighteen (18) foot pounds (ft/lbs) in the sequence shown in the attached photo. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Cam shaft torques for caps and cover 3.0tdohc


Bolts in the center of the cams 28.2 ft/lbs
Bolts on the outside of the cams 15.9ft/lbs
INSTALLATION
1. Cylinder head cover.
1) Install the cylinder head cover gasket to cylinder
head cover.
3) Apply liquid gasket (TB1207B or equivalent) to
the rubber seal of the camshaft end, injector
harness gasket area and No. 1 camshaft
bracket.
4) Tighten cylinder head cover fixing bolts
Torque : 9 N·m (0.9 kg·m/6.5 lb ft)

mains 39Nm/29Ft-lbs and mains side bolts are same torque
