Uncontrolled downshifts

can anyone help me identify and fix the problem on my 1994 c220? I have just had my automatic transmission overhauled due to a leak problem in the selector switch. since, the tranny is already pulled down and the linings are showing signs for replacement, i decided to replace them all to maximize my labor cost. the problem is the car shifts perfectly from 1-4. however, when it reaches 60kph, it uncontrollably downshifts to 3rd gear and just stays there and never upshifts to 4th. after downshifting from 4th gear, it downshifts normally to 2nd and 1st when you slow down and stop. when you go again from 1st gear, the car shifts perfectly going to 4th and when you reach 55kph or 60kph, it will again downshift to 3rd. this means i cannot use the car on long drives or simply could not drive over 50-60kph. we have tried to replace the governor with no success. fluids are obviously new and levels are correct. i would say the shop where i had it overhauled is competent. although they admit that this is the first time they have encountered a situation like this. we are now on a joint effort to research for a solution on this problem. hopefully, somebody could help us through thier experience or thoughts on this problem. thank you and happy motoring to all!

Where is 1994 Sportvan downshift relay location

There's no such thing as a downshift relay.Trans downshift is cable actuated.Go to the end of cable at the carb/throttle body, open the throttle fully by hand and depress the black button in the cable connection block, the cable housing will pop and when your driving will automatically reset to where it needs to be.Your done.

Trans down shifts at 60 while cruising

Thinking it's coming out of lockup not actually downshifting,
possibly brake pedal switch adjustment,TPS, or lockup solonid is
faulty. Notice how you can cruise at 60 and just barely touch
the brake pedal,it will come out of overdrive, you can feel it.
If you have a tach the lockup will only change the RPM about
500 ,if it was downshifting it would be more like 2000.

I saw a similar problem as yours, And its was a Vacuum and the EGR. check all the vacuum hoses and. Also it could be a transmission problem or the torque converter clutch solenoid. Good luck

96 s10 4cyl automatic shifts great through 1-3 but seems to bottom out and even downshift instead of going into overdrive, drives fine when in drive only.

I believe you have a 4l60e transmission.Do you have a chck engine light? The unit may have a 3-2 downshift solenoid going bad or a possible band ''servo'' leaking. The band applies in 2nd and 4th.You may also have a shift solenoid starting to malfnction......Best

Transmission downshift problem

This vehicle had a problem with the valve bodies in the transmission. There are several servos that assist the transmission to shift. This problem is best diagnosed by a local trans shop that can do an OBDII test to see if the trans has the proper voltages to the servos as well as to check the pressure.

Auto trans will not downshift automaticly

Educated guess: Sounds like a shift solenoid or a speed sensor gone bad. Search a Ram truck owner forum (start witha  Google search) to see if it is a common problem.

2001 chysler T&C downshifting

It must be seeing a fault coming out of 4th gear. The downshift is "Limp In" mode. That is about when the Clutch Volumn is recalculated. It may be having OverDrive issues (which is internal) You need to have a diagnostic done with a scanner. Find out which fault is occuring and then go from there. There may even be updates for the TCM. Let me know how that goes?

1994 BMW 540i does quick, short, unexpected downshifts

Dear sea_lion42, Friday 2-20-2009 11:22pm EST (USA)

Check your transmission fluid which is usually done with the engine warm and running!
If the tran fluid is low add some Lucas Trans Fluid from your local auto parts store!
The knock makes me believe your low on trans fluid!
