Question about 1998 Mercury Mystique

1 Answer

Where is the resistor pack located that is in the heater circuit, for a 1998 mercury Mistique?

I need to know where the resistor pack is located on this 1998 mercury Mystique so I can check it to see if it is bad. I am getting voltage to my heater but when the wires are connected and it gets a load across the heater motor, it doesn't even make any type of sound or attempt to work but I know for sure the fan motor is ok.

Might be the Resistor pack located close to the blower. Could be under the dash or under the hood, but always close to the blower itself. Usually has a flat connector with 4 or 5 wires, and two small screws holding in the duct. It may be a crispy critter. It happens... The blower moves air across it to keep it cool. The blower motor may be bad as well, or possibly the fan speed switch. May very well be the fuse for the blower as well. The blower connector may be loose. Let me know what you find.

Testimonial: "It shows the proper voltage at the plug in going to fan motor but when I connect it doesn't work. When I run voltage from the battery directly to the fan motor it will work."

SOURCE: 1998 Mercury Mystique heater blower motor doesn't work. Have replaced everything and checked both fuses (both good). What next?

Don't know how the ABS light would be related to the blower motor, you said you checked everything - did you check the blower motor circuit for power and ground with a meter or a test light ?
Is the resistor getting power from the relay ?

SOURCE: replace blower motor resistor 1995 Mercury Mystique

Probably connected to the blower switch. Actually it is a group of resistors in a block. BTW, there also is a thermal fuse in the resistor group that might be the cause of failure

Yes you can. Open the glove box then "lightly" pry the the sides of the glove bix inword. If you do 1 side at a time it makes it a little easyer. When you open the glove box, if you look between the box and the dash you should find a white plastic stoper on either side. You can "lightly" pry the box to move it past the stopers and it will flop open exposing the blower moter. note: empty the glove box before you do this. I know any idioty would know to do this right....... not this one. sometimes i amaze my self at how stupid i can be LOL o well..... hope that helps :)

Where is the heater/ac fan resistor located on a 1999 vw beetle

Attached to the blower motor is a device called the Resistor Pack...
It has a 4 wire connector...Wire colors are...Yellow...Green...White/Blue...And Blue.
Inside this resistor pack is a fuse. If you use an ohm meter.
One probe on Yellow wire and other on the Blue.
If it reads "open" the resistor pack is defective. If you read resistance
the pack is Good. Main power to the circuit is supplied via fuse #25 (25A) located in the under-hood fuse box. So simple answer is .The blower motor resistor is located close to the blower.
Let me know.

Need to locate the motor blower resistor for my 1999 mercury mountaineer, it has dual air, the resistor for the back is fine but the one in the front is bad and i cannot locate it. Please help.

If you have a manual system, you have a resistor. If electronic, you have a blower motor speed controller. Please rate if this helps.

here is info:

Control System Outputs-Manual A/C
Blower Motor Switch Resistor
The heater blower motor switch resistor has the following features:
  • The assembly is located on the evaporator housing in the engine compartment.
  • Three resistance elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four blower motor speeds.
  • Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the blower motor circuit to decrease or increase blower motor speed.
  • An overheating protective device (thermal limiter) will open the resistor coil circuit when the temperature reaches 121°C (250°F) interrupting the blower motor operation in all speeds except HI.
  • The thermal limiter cannot be reset and is not serviceable.
Control System Outputs-EATC
Blower Motor Speed Control
The blower speed control is located on the evaporator housing in the engine compartment.
  • The function of the blower motor speed control is to convert low power signals from the electronic automatic temperature control module to a high current, variable ground feed for the blower motor (18527).
  • The blower motor speed is infinitely variable and is controlled by the electronic automatic temperature control module software.
  • A delay function provides a gradual increase or decrease in blower motor speed under all conditions.

Ac blower motor

Check fuse supplying fan is not blown,
Check blower control switch is operating OK,
Check relay controlling fan is operating OK,
Check variable speed resistor pack is not faulty (the resistor pack is usually located in the blower ducting, in the blower airflow),
Check blower motor ground connection is not missing.
