Question about 1998 Dodge Avenger
I have tried spraying it with starter fluid but still wont start
The alternator is not in the starting system, but most people think it is
The fuel pump has to be on until it sees a crank signal and supplies
pressure at fuel rail. Do you have that ?
Do you have spark while cranking?
Is the intake ducting in place & maf hooked up?
I assume it turns over, your saying no start correct?

You have no spark. crank position sensor or the ignition control module

Sounds like the solenoid not grounded if you try to start and all it does is click then the solenoid is not grounded and if it's built on to the starter which it might be you might have to replace the starter. Try cleaning the wires going to the starter before you buy a new they may be corroded.

Check fuel pressure, had this problem a year ago, bet the fuel pump is gone you should be able to hear the pump come on when you turn the key forward. You should hear it hum if not its dead, costly repair the pump, regulator and filt is all one unit.
