New wires !!!

Don't like the ones you have?

You need wiring diagrams to & from

No more we can do for you, need that road map
or work one wire at a time.

It would be easier to use a print to test from pcm connector
to vss to see if you even have a problem

The speedometer is a road indicator. The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is a permanent magnet generator which is located on the transaxle. The VSS sends an input to the PCM whenever the transaxle differential carrier turns. The PCM then buffers the VSS signal. The PCM transmits the VSS signal to the following components at 4000 pulses/mile through CKT 817:
• The instrument cluster
• The cruise control module
• The radio (uplevel)
The instrument cluster uses the input in order to indicate the vehicle speed on the speedometer.
Instrument Cluster Indicators
The BCM controls the instrument cluster indicators through the SPI serial data communication bus. Refer to Body Control Module System Check in Body Control System.

How do you reset the PCM on a 2000 Grand Marquis

did you check the transmission filter yet. It might be clogged even with new fluid. Next I would check the VSS vehicle speed sensor.

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for an 1998 regal gs.

Test f66.53.gif A speed sensor. Courtesy of General Motors Corporation, Service Technology Group. A defective vehicle speed sensor may cause different problems depending on the computer output control functions. A defective vehicle speed sensor (VSS) may cause improper converter clutch lockup, improper cruise control operation, and inaccurate speedometer operation.
  • Prior to VSS diagnosis, the vehicle should be lifted on a hoist so the drive wheels are free to rotate.
  • Backprobe the vss output wire and connect the voltmeter leads from this wire to ground.
  • Select the 20-volt AC scale on the voltmeter.
  • Then start the engine.
  • Place the transaxle in drive and allow the drive wheels to rotate. If the VSS voltage signal is not 0.5 volt, or more, replace the sensor.
  • When the VSS provides the specified voltage signal, backprobe the VSS terminal at the PCM and repeat the voltage signal test with the drive wheels rotating.
  • If 0.5 volt is available at this terminal, the trouble may be in the PCM (powertrain control module).
  • When 0.5 volt is not available at this terminal, turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the wire from the VSS to the PCM.
  • Connect the ohmmeter leads across the wire. the meter should read zero ohm.
  • Repeat the test with the ohmmeter leads connected to the VSS ground terminal and the PCM ground terminal.
  • This wire should also have zero ohm resistance. If the resistance in these wires is more than specified, repair the wires.
  • The condition of a speed sensor can be checked by going through the diagnostic routines for the system.
  • If this test indicates that a sensor is faulty, the sensor should be replaced.
  • Speed sensors can also be checked with an ohmmeter. Most manufacturers list a resistance specification.
  • The resistance of the sensor is measured across the sensor's terminals.
  • The typical range for a good sensor is 800 to 1400 ohms of resistance.

How can i replace 1991 maxima radio system?

The original radio is a BOSE system and it has a buit in amp. So if you replaced the deck you need to replace the speakers all so. Don't cut the wires to hook-up the deck buy an addapter KIT. It's not just the stereo that runs though that harness the factory alarm does all so and that will cause you problems. Anyway back to the stereo you need to add an amplifier and problem sovled.

I have a 1999 Alero 3.4 V6 the cooling fans won't run. I checked the fans they both work if I unplug the harness for the temp sensor, the relays and fuses are fine,I replaced the coolant temp sensor and...

CHECK MODE RELAY IF BOTH RELAYS GOOD YOU CAN CHECK RELAY BY REMOVING IT FROM FUSE BOX HOOK RELAY TERMINAL 85 TO BATTERY POSITIVE AND GROUND TERMINAL 86 IF CLICKS RELAY GOOD. IF RELAY GETTING POWER GOOD AND THE 30 AMP COOLING FAN FUSE OKAY.EITHER THERE IS A SHORT IN COOLING FAN WIRING OR THE PCM HAS FAILED.THE PCM HAS LOST OR COMMAND RUN CIRCUIT IN PCM SHORTED OUT DUE TO PCM FAILURE.LET DEALERSHIP OR GARAGE USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO ACTIVATE THE PCM SEE IF IT HAS FAILED.DONT SPEND MONEY ON NEW PCM COULD BE SHORT IN THE WIRING CIRCUIT

The below test is generic, but gives you a general idea how to test the sensor. Most shops skip to the resistance test (at the bottom), if they do any test at all. A new sensor is $17 at autozone. Let me know if you have any questions.

1994 GRAND MARQUIS Odometer stopped working, tridometer aswell

If the odometer and tripmeter stop incrementing their mile values, then the VSS or vehicle speed sensor is bad or has become disconnected.

Vehicle Speed Sensor OPERATION The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a magnetic pick-up sensor that sends a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the speedometer. The sensor measures the rotation of the transmission output shaft or the ring gear on the differential and sends an AC voltage signal to the PCM which determines the corresponding vehicle speed.
TESTING
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disengage the wiring harness connector from the VSS.
  3. Using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM), measure the resistance (ohmmeter function) between the sensor terminals. If the resistance is 190-250 ohms, the sensor is okay.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Detach the connector for the VSS sensor 91194p27.jpg
Fig. 2: Remove the retaining bolt for the VSS sensor and . . . 91194p28.jpg
Fig. 3: . . . remove the VSS sensor from the transmission 91194p29.jpg
Fig. 4: Pry the retainer for the VSS gear off and . . . 91194p30.jpg
Fig. 5: . . . remove the gear from the VSS 91194p31.jpg
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  3. Detach the connector for the VSS.
  4. Remove the VSS retaining bolt and remove the VSS from the transmission.
  5. Remove the driven gear retainer and the drive gear. To install:
  6. Inspect the O-ring on the sensor and replace if necessary.
  7. Install the driven gear and the retainer.
  8. Place the VSS into the transmission.
  9. Tighten the retaining bolt to 98-115 inch lbs. (11-13 Nm).
  10. Attach the VSS electrical connector.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.

I need to hook up a centrodyne taxi meter to 2000 dodge caravan. I need to know how to hook it up. thanks

It's very easy on the pcm you will find a blue/orange wire. That's you hook up wire(vss). There are two set of wires off the meter bracket one comes with three wires and the other one with two. The one with 3 one goes to battery(red) ground(black) and top light(green or white). The other set of wires only the white one is connected to the vss.(vehicle speed sensor)

99 Ford Escort ZX2 Speedometer/Odometer doesn't work

I'm sorry, I have to ask, this is an automatic right? That out of the way, Does the trans shift different when you drove it with the Vss unplugged when you had the ohm meter on it? 8.5 volts? Something sounds wrong here. I'll have to look up the wiring diagram before I can say thats a bad reading but it should be battery voltage (14 volts running) or 5 volts?
