Hard to trouble shoot a master cylinder, it either works or it dont. Try pumpping ya breaks four or five time to see if it builds up. If it does then you need to bleed the breaks. If not then ya cylinder is bad.

My brake pedal looses pressure and bleeds off. No loss of brake fluid. Not sure if it is a vacuum problem or a master-cylinder problem. How do I trouble shoot it?

easy remove vacuum to booster and plug it now go and step on brakes and hold them down hard .if it fades away its the master cylinder .you can do the same test with car off and not touching the booster , if pedal falls its the master cylinder

undo the brake bleed nipples at the calipers and see if that allows you to turn the wheels . If so then the problem will be insufficient brake pedal piston clearance of faulty brake master cylinder

I do not have any front brakes on my 94 ford ranger. they just went out no noise or anything. i am having problems trouble shooting the problem. what should i do?

most likely the master cylinder is by passing and the only thing grabbing is the rear brakes. try pumping the pedal to see if it gets firm for a moment . if so then replace the master cylinder. if not then look for a leak in the brake system.

How to trouble shoot the brake system?

To trouble shoot the brake system you have to check:AntiLock Brake System ABS:
Hydraulic Modulator
Basically this unit holds steady or bleeds off pressure in brake line, as necessary, when the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) detects an abnormal deceleration in the speed of the wheel. On 2000 and later models the EBCM and Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) are mounted on a bracket attached on the left strut tower.
Wheel Speed Sensors, brake fluid level, brake hoses and lines, inspect and replacement, Brake hydraulic system-bleeding, Brake light switch, check, adjustment and replacement.
Disk brake caliper, disk brake pads, drum brake shoes, master cylinder, master cylinder reservoir, O-rings replacement, parking brake adjustment, parking brake cables inspect and replacement, parking brake shoes-replacement, power brake booster, check or replacement, wheel cylinder inspect and replace.

1992 Ford F350 Dually Diesel Truck Brake System problem.

Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.
