99 malibu, key won't turn in ignition (it's new cylinder and casing that worked fine before I changed gear shift back to park and connected the battery)

Is your steering wheel turned far to one side? Sometimes that will jam against the stearing column so hard that the key will be hard to get out.
If so turn the wheel hard to left and try to remove the key at the same time. Repeat this for the right also.
It has worked for me a lot.

Shake ya sterring wheel from side to side and try turning ya key. The lock could be stuck and needs to be freed up. This should do the trick.

Condition
Some customers may comment that intermittently the brake lights do not function correctly. Other symptoms may include extended pedal travel required to shift out of PARK, cruise control does not function correctly, and DTC C0161 and/or C0277 may be set.

Cause
The most likely cause of this condition is high resistance due to terminal fretting corrosion in the body control module (BCM) C2 connector (specifically pins C2-18, C2-31 and C2-59).

Correction
DO NOT replace the BCM for this condition. Disconnecting the C2 connector, adding dielectric silicone grease and reconnecting the C2 connector per the procedure below will correct the high resistance condition due to terminal fretting corrosion.

Remove the right side front floor console side trim panel to access to the Body Control Module (BCM).
Locate the C2 connector on the BCM.
Unlatch the C2 connector and disconnect the C2 connector from the BCM.
Reconnect the C2 connector back on the BCM and re-latch.
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 (this step cleans up the terminal fretting corrosion).
Using the Tech 2®, verify the brake pedal position sensor (BPPS) voltage is between:
• 0.88V - 2.11V (for 2004-2006 model years)

• 0.73V - 1.47V (for 2007-2009 model years)

Check for proper operation of the brake lights.
• If the brakes lights are operating properly, remove the C2 connector again from the BCM and proceed to Step 8.

• If the brake lights are not operating properly, proceed to Step 12.





Apply dielectric lubricant (clear gel) GM P/N 12377900 (In Canada, use P/N 10953529) on the BCM C2 pins (apply with a one-inch nylon bristle brush) on all the C2 connector pins (this will treat the pins against fretting corrosion).
Reconnect the C2 connector back on the BCM and re-latch.
Reinstall the right side front floor console side trim panel.
Using the Tech 2®, check that the BPPS ratio is equal to BPPS learned home when the brake pedal is not depressed.
• If they are equal, brake lamps should be operating correctly and no further steps are necessary.

• If they are not equal, perform the Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration procedure in SI to complete the repair.

Check the brake lights for proper operation. If incorrect, refer to SI and perform normal diagnostics. Source(s): gm tech

wires from the horn run down the steering column and pass the area where the shift linkage is also in the column. its either a loose wire, or a chafted wire inside the column. Be VERY careful working on this if you have airbags. they must be disarmed before you work on the column.

take it all apart with the key in itand replce it for a new switch they are only like 30 dollars that one got is broke when you take all apart right under the switch you will have to puch a botton with a screw driver to pull the old switch out

I would replace the ignition cylinder. the tumbler are wearing funny and this is causing the key to not turn or get stuck . I believe you have a pass key system on your car too . so after the cylinder is replace or rebuild you may need to do a relearn with the new lock cylinder. Not sure if you can rebuild the key cylinder and if a lock smith would have the right tumbler codes . but i know for sure if you buy the lock cylinder from a dealership they can code the tumbler to match the original key

hmmm. it sounds like either your motor mount or transmission mounts are bad. check for rips in the rubber and have a friend hold the brake while shifting it from park to reverse etc

The alternator wouldn't have anything to do with either of the problems your having ! The key getting stuck in the ignition could be a problem developing with the lock cylinder . Can you turn the key to the off position an then it won't come out ? Or it won't turn to the off position an then not come out ? There are safety devices in place that won't let the key come out if not in gear an foot on the brake pedal etc... electronic an they do fail . Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator:Linear Shift Assembly: If the vehicle is equipped with a column mounted gear shift, it has a linear shift assembly on the steering column. The linear shift assembly has a cable that runs from the linear shift assembly to the ignition lock cylinder case. The linear shift assembly cable contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

Now for the stall at stops , Your vehicle has Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System ,electronic throttle control or drive by wire ! It is electronical controlled .
There are sensors in the gas pedal an on the throttle body ,they are connected to the PCM/ECM - engine computer with wiring ! There is a DC electric motor on the throttle body , this is what opens the throttle plate . Throttle plates do become dirty with varnish an stuff that can cause idle problems ! The Key FOB is stuck in the ignition. How can I get it to eject?

Your best bet is to take it to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer ! The fix involves taking the steering column apart an or the floor shifter assembly ! Also electrical test to determine what is the problem !

I have a 98 Chevy Malibu Ls and the ignition won't


Inspect the old ignition cycle which is out.Is there any problem noticed of Ignition cylinder getting worn out.
Because when issue of ignition not turning off,its faulty ignition lock cylinder or faulty ignition switch.I suggest re-inspect the new ignition cylinder.

My 2008 Chevy Malibu won't go into park and I can't take the keys out of the ignition.


There is a problem in the shift linkage or internally in the transmission.

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?


Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

Is there any shift lock button near gear lever if yes than push it and give it a a try if no than I think you have you flush the gear oil and replace the gear filter too.

2002 sunfire key stuck in the ignition (run) position, won't turn off, no gages working, and will not shift out of park. now the service and theft system lights are on


Sounds as if the ignition cylinder is bad. You will have to replace it if the key is stuck. It is a lot easier to replace with the key in the on position as that will be required to remove the cylinder. If you get the key out and then the cylinder will not turn, replacement of the cylinder will be more complicated
