Greetings this is my first post here. I have a heating problem with my 2001product dodge grand caravan sport . The heater blows cold air but as i drive it will blow hot air briefly then back to cold air. I just replaced my blower motor resistor hoping for the best and it still blows cold air. My coolant res is emty but my radiator is topped no leaks and im not overheating please help me someone its cold here in NY

    So I did replenish my DEXCOOL antifreeze along with the blower motor resistor and now i have heat and various speeds on my heater control.

Keep reserve full, green antifreeze, Clean if it is not ,flush system, shoud be done, every 25,000 miles or every 2 years,if that is empty you are loosing antifreeze somewhere? do you have rear heat? check those lines under car? the metal pipes rot out and leak. Change your Water Pump, that is what moves the system. Is the temp gauge on dash showing in the middle like it is warming up? Thermostat change. that shows antifreeze temp which goes through heater core to warm up the car. No antifreeze smell in car right? burnt maple syrup?

check the coolant level, I had the same problem low coolant level.....no hot water to the the heater coil.

i had the same problem, i dont remember the name of the piece but its mounted right in between the driver side headlight and the radiator. its a relay that turns the fans on when the car gets hot. its mounted on the body of the car. there should be wires leading from the radiator to the piece im talking about.... good luck I also paid about 35 dollars for the piece

SOURCE: Dodge 2002 Grand Caravan V6 3.3 engine overheating/no cabin heat.

Replace the bad radiator hose first.  Second- get you special formulated anti-freeze dye from the auto store and pour it into the radiator.  Third- make sure you got all the air pockets out of your system, cause the coolant system won't work with air pockets in it.  Fourth- Check for leaks by looking for the colored dye.  If it's not the radiator hose, then could possibly be a pin hole in your radiator.  Would suggest replacing all the radiator hoses at the same time while you got the coolant system disconnected, cause you don't want to have to come back and replace another hose in a few months.

You say you can hear the climate control work, but the blend door for the heater may not be moving. If both heater hoses are hot, I would suspect the blend door.

Yes . Your heater is actually not an Electrical Heater or a Separate Heating system . Actually if uses the same Radiator Line . When Radiator is heated up it is cooled down with radiator Fan and coolant . But when you use the heater function , this hot fluid is passed through a heating coil tube and blower fan is used to take that heat inside the car .
So I think now you understand , why you are not heated up in a short run . You really need to make the Engine + Radiator Warmer ( that is natuarlly happened when you run more) to get Warm air inside.

In my 2002 grand caravan, the heat is not working. It blows, but only blows cold air.


sound like a faulty thermostat.if thermostat good check HVAC fuse.if all is good problem could be electrical problem to heater air door or faulty or stuck door.the mode switch can also befaulty.

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped


Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

the heater core behind the dash may be bad, it is the coolant tank for the heater system that is to say it is where the heat comes from. kinda pricey to have repaired at a dealership, if you can hear the fan turning but no heat, than it is a good possibility, or a vent hose has fallen off, get down and check under the dash

check the coolant level. b-4 you start vehicle in morning, open radiator cap then start vehicle if level drops add until full then replace cap.

misty check the water level in the radiato...if it is low the last thing to get any water is the heater core..if low you will need to find the reason...like a water pump or headgasket leaking
