Your year Pathfinder, as mine, had a slew of bad head light switches. The headlight switches caused a slurry of intermediate nightmares for a lot of customers. Many complaints included:
1. My head lights sometimes turn off upon switching from low to high beams.
2. My lights turn completely off when I switch to high beams.
3. My lights flicker when I switch from high to low beams and vise verse.
4. My lights sometime wont turn on at all.
5. My lights go on and off on bumpy roads.
6. My lights sometimes come on by themselves.
All of these different but similar complaints contribute to the infamous head light switch. There has even been reports of continuous dead battery's due to the head light switch turning the lights on and off intermittently and eventually deadening the battery.
The light switch is relatively easy to replace. Simply remove the the two upper and lower steering column covers, disconnect the two wiring harness bulk head connectors, a couple screws and wallah.
Remember your safety and always dissconncet your your battey upon electrical repairs.
Just last week I bought a new head light switch for about $70.00. I would highly recommend buying a new head headlight switch and not buying a junkyard special. You will likely be buying another faulty switch.

Check the harness and the ground connections, and although this may sound stupid, have you checked to see if the bulbs are burnt out?

there is a short somewhere and check all the connections and you could have actually gotten a bad bulb sometimes the manufacturer messes up
