SOURCE: Ford Windstar 1996 Trouble Codes P0171, P0141, P0161, and P0174

Bank one is toward the front of the vehicle. Sounds like the heated oxygen sensors have gone bad. The Oxygen Sensors are located in the exhaust pipe and require a special socket to remove and replace.

SOURCE: check engine light

this is very common on these. the upper intake seals leak and should be replaced. It is not a noticable vacuum leak and is usually worse when the engine is cold. It is not a very difficult job to do

SOURCE: check engine light 97 ford explorer. obd-II po141

Looked up your OBD II code for your Explorer and got the following: Bank 1 Sensor 1
The possible causes are listed below per Chilton: *same result for all engines available on your vehicle

Trouble Code: P0141 (4.0L V6 VIN E Auto)
HO2S-11 Heater Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Print this code dataprint_icon_codes.gif
Number of Trips to Set Code: 2
OBD II Monitor Type: CCM Details
Indicators: MIL Details
Trouble Code Conditions:
During testing the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) heaters are checked for open and short circuits and excessive current draw. The test fails when the current draw exceeds a calibrated limit or an open or short circuit is detected.
Possible Causes:

  • Vacuum hose disconnected on exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system module (ESM) applications* Short to VPWR in the harness or HO2S
  • Water in the harness connector
  • Open VPWR circuit
  • Open GND circuit
  • Low battery voltage
  • Corrosion or incorrec
The sensors themselves appear in the illustration linked to below. The illustration is for the Ford Ranger but indications are that other models have similar locations. Hope this helps with your problem. Best of luck!

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

O2 sensor's don't have a fuse , except for the heater circuit. PCM - engine computer supply's five volt's , signal return and ground . All are connected at the PCM . The fuse's you are calling O2 sensor fuse's are for the heater circuit . The PCM controls the O2 heater circuit by pulse width modulation ,do you know what that is .There is a transistor inside the PCM that toggles the ground on an off to control the heater circuit . Unless you know automotive electrical circuit testing an testing PCM input's an outputs ,your best bet , take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

Important: Whenever the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) heaters are commanded ON with a scan tool, they will continue to be pulsed ON once per second until the ignition is turned OFF for 30 seconds.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Command the HO2S heaters ON with a scan tool.
Wait 15 seconds to allow the HO2S heater current to stabilize.
Observe the affected HO2S Heater Current parameter with a scan tool.
Is the HO2S Heater Current parameter within the specified range?

2007 Chevy Tahoe check engine scan codes: P0030, P0053, PO135 ~ Please advise or help : ( thought that advanced auto would have been a bit more helpful than handing me a piece of paper with codes and...

There is a fault with the inbuilt heater in the oxygen sensor, before the catalytic converter, on the exhaust pipe the same side of the engine as cylinder 1. The oxygen sensor has four wires within the cable sheath to the top of it. Two of the wires will share the same color. These wires supply power to an internal heating element wire within the sensor. Follow the cable from the oxygen sensor to the connector, you can do a lot testing here. Check the resistance between the two 'same coloured ' wires. The resistance is low, somewhere between 1 and 10 ohms. If there is no continuity (infinite resistance) then this is the fault and the sensor needs to be replaced. The codes: P0030 the oxygen sensor heater relay is at fault P0053 Oxygen heater resistance error P0135 Sensor 1 bank 1 error You are looking at replacement. A further confirmation take the connection from sensor 1 bank 1 and swap it with the sensor 1 bank 2 on the other side of the engine. The codes should 'transfer' and show P0036; P0059 and P0141.

Check engine light on- auto zone scanner shows error code p0053 probable cause: 1.-check circuit fuse 2.-relay defective 3.-check circuit wiring Where are fuse and relay located?

The code P0053 is for your Bank 1 Oxygen Sensor, the closest Oxygen Sensor to the engine, connected to the Exhaust. Replace your Oxygen Sensor, clear the code, and see if it comes back.
