SOURCE: Chevy S10 Pickup Starter. Removed the two bolts

Just changed a starter in a 94 S10 4x4. The only way to remove the starter was to take the passenger side exhaust manifold off and bring the starter out that way. Installation the same in reverse. Hope this helps. Don

SOURCE: How to change the starter in 1991 s-10 pickup?

It will wiggle out for you
It has very limited space although they do come out
Take your time twisting it and moving it up and down to remove it
Take note what position it was upon removing to install the new one back in

SOURCE: Dumb question... According to AllData, this is the

Perhaps you're reading more into this than is really there.

The AllData advise sounds accurate, and I'm confident the spirit of the instruction is to perform these initial steps from under the hood (on the top side of the engine). Having completed the initial steps, go under the car and actually physically remove the starter from underneath.

Did you purchase a single vehicle subscription to AllData from AutoZone? The basic subscription is for only one year. For about the same amount of money you can purchase a vehicle specific repair manual and use it until you wear the ink from the pages. I'll take hardcopy over internet any day!

Remove starter from 300touring 2006

Instructions
    • Lift the hood and find the battery. Disconnect both battery cables, starting with the negative cable first. You will need an open-ended wrench to loosen the nuts on the cable ends.
    • 2Jack your Chrysler up. Place it on jack stands, placing the stands under the frame. Locate the old starter on the bottom of the engine. Remove the heat shield from around the starter and remove the two wires running to the starter.
    • 3
    • Remove the three bolts holding the starter to the engine. Turn the starter toward the engine and pull the starter out. The starter must be in the right position to get it past the motor mount. Work the starter down and out, then lay it aside. The starter has a core value you will get back when you return it to where you purchased it.
    • 4Work the new starter back up past the motor mount and put the starter in place. Be sure to line up the starter shim and replace all three bolts. You will need a socket and extension and a ratchet to replace the bolts.
    • 5Replace the two wires to the starter. Double check all bolts to ensure they are tight. Replace the heat shield around the starter. Jack up the vehicle and remove the jack stands from under the frame. Let the car down.
    • 6Clean both battery cable ends. Replace them on the battery and tighten with a wrench.

I have it undone, but when I try to remove the starter from where it is at, it will not move back far enough to get it out.

you'll need to remove the metal plate that bolts to the transmission. There are four bolts I think, and there may be to support bars that will need to be removed as well. As soon as it is removed the starter will drop straight down.

I AM TRYING TO REPLACE MY STARTER ON A 1997 CHEV LUMINA 3.1 V6. I NEED A DIAGRAM OF THE STARTER

Hello Larry...Here are the steps to take. Detach the ground (black) battery cable. Lift the front of your vehicle with a floor jack, support it with jack stands and chock the rear wheels.
Unfasten the retaining nuts holding the heavy (battery) cable and the thin wire to the back of the starter solenoid (the small cylinder mounted on top of the starter motor) with a wrench. Move the heavy and thin wires out of the way.
Loosen the two mounting bolts holding the starter motor to the engine block with a ratchet, large ratchet extension and socket. Hold the motor assembly with one hand and finish removing the two starter mounting bolts. Make a note of the position of each mounting bolt, since they are of different sizes, and of any shims located between the starter motor, mounting bolts and engine block.
Remove the starter motor from the vehicle

To Install:
Position the new starter motor in place with one hand and install the two mounting bolts finger tight with your free hand, along with any shims installed with the original starter. Failing to replace the shims may cause the starter to grind against the flywheel or engage and fail to start the engine

Tighten the two mounting bolts with the ratchet, extension & socket.
Install the heavy cable and wire in their respective mounting studs at the back of the starter solenoid and install the retaining nuts finger tight. Tighten the nuts with the wrench; (careful not to overtighten)
Lower your vehicle off the jack stands...Attach the ground (black) battery cable.

There you have it, included is a picture of the starter, good luck, i hope this helps.

Can't get the starter out of a 1991 Nissan pickup.

The second bolt is hidden way up and tucked in near the solenoid. You need to setup a ratchet with extensions/socket (14mm) combination that is just a little longer than the starter motor. If you just can't picture where the bolt is, then go down to the parts store and look at/purchase the replacement starter to see how it mounts up.
There are two bolts for the starter mount and one nut for the main starter power lead. There is one plug for the starter key switch.
Disconnect plug. Loosen lower bolt. Remover upper bolt. Remove lower bolt. Twist starter so you can remove main power cable nut (be sure to have disconnected the battery first!) Pull starter.

96 Chevy S-10 starter problems

Just did this, take the long bolt out of the passenger side engine mount, loosen the two transmission mount bolts and jack the right side of oil pan slowly, when you do this there will be enough clearance between the bell housing and frame, be sure to use a jack stand to be safe.
Put the starter motor in the space with the selonoid up and wiggle forward into position then insert bolts and hook up connections. Let the motor down, put the motor mount bolt back in, tighten transmission mount.
