Question about 1992 Dodge Dakota

The dome, under dash, & key ring lights will not turn off.

The above lights remain on indefinitely when the headlight switch and the ignition switch is turned off - and both the driver and passenger doors are closed. In time of course this totally drains the car battery.

I note when the key is inserted into the ignition and the driver's side door is opened I get a warning buzzer as normal. When I open the passenger side door there is no warning buzzer. Not sure if this is normal?

When manually actuating the door switch on this side there is no buzzing sound. Just wondered if the switch was defective --- or perhaps there is a problem with a time delay switch or module somewhere in this light circuit?.

I have checked the fuses (under the dash & in the engine compartment) and they are OK.

I have checked the door switches and they are OK

I have removed the bulb in the dome light

    ********

I guess the next thing to do is check the light switch and the key switch in the applicable circuit. Which of these switches has the timing mechcanism (or whatever?) that ultimately turns off the lighst?

Both of these switches require removal of panels to get to these switches. So in the process of troubleshooting - which of these switches should I troubleshoot 1st?

You need to find the relay for the interior lights and replace it... it's located in the fuse panel under the dash.

1993 Suburban. Why do only the headlights and dome lights work?

So when you turn the key to on, no dash warning lights and gauges turn on? Did you check the fuses with a voltmeter or test light? With key off, some fuses would have power at all times-brake lights, headlights, horn- but with key on, all fuses should show power.

Just off the battery is the Battery Junction Block, where the power is distributed to various circuits through Fusible Links. These connect to battery power with eyelet connectors at the Junction Block-looks like 5 or 6 Links leading off the Block. Even the small wire from the battery to the Block is a Fusible Link, but if your headlights work, this main Link must be okay. One of the Links from the Junction Block would be to the ignition switch. If your ignition switch has power, you may have a bad switch, but you need to check if it has power first. If no power to switch, check the Fusible Links. The diagram I am looking at does not show which one it is, unfortunately.

its either a bad door switch,or could be the dome override switch by headlight switch,or your interior light switch is all the way up

Turns over but won't start

I would start checking fuses for power. It could be a battery cable issue or something in the fuse box. The dash lights would not be powered thru the key switch, but the other stuff would be. Provided the key switch is getting power for accessories.

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Z-71 - the interior dome light works with the dash switches, but won't work when the door opens. Why?

Is there a button by the headlight control switch? I recently found out that the dome light only comes on while the doors are open when this button is engaged

The other night while driving I turned my highbeams on and my headlights went out all together. Also I noticed I have no dash lights or dome lights.I thought it was probably the dimmer switch,so I tore it...

Did you check the fuse it is in the side of the dash on passenger side between the dash and the door. And there is one under the hood for relays and large fuses.

Doom & under dash lights will not turn off

Try this, remove the trim that covers the headlight switch, use a flat tip screwdriver and depress the tangs holding the headlight switch in place, pull the headlight switch toward you along with the wires, unplug the headlight switch from the electrical connection, if the dome light goes out, chances are you have a bad headlight switch. Good luck, Gary

1999 Mercury Sable Dome Light won't shut off

Next to the headlight switch is a dimmer dial for the interior dash lights... if you turn it all the way up, the interior lights remain on... there is a "detent" on the dimmer. turn the interior dash lights all the way full on ...you'll feel the detent, then turn it down back past the detent a little bit...that should cancel the interior courtesy lights... wait a bit because the interior lights are sometimes on delay timers....
good luck let me know what happens.
