Question about 1992 Mazda B-Series

1 Answer

1992 Mazda PU no highbeams

I have a 1992 B2600 4X4. The low beam headlights work but when the lever is pushed forward to the bright or high position, the lights go off. When I pull back on the lever for temporary high beam flashes there is nothing. I have checked all the fuses and they are fine. Could it be both lamps at once going bad, or is it more likely the switch?

It could be both lamps are burnt out.try replacing the lamps. Or checking the voltage at the lamp plugs. If the plugs have current with the light switch on. Then the lamps are bad.

Headlights wont turn

sounds like the headlight switch is defective and needs replacing, but you need to check to make sure the rod that the switch pushes against if make the full travel and not short as this will not allow the switch to change from low beam to high beam.if the rod is travelling the full length then the switch is no should also hear a click when moving the arm to go from low to high if not then the switch is holding the lever at a certain position to get the high beams to work this also indicates a switch problem.

I can't get my brights to stay on without having to hold them on . What might be the issue

I find that to energise the high beam momentarily (to warn oncoming motorists) I pull back on the switch lever but to change to full beam on I push down on the lever until it clicks as the low /high beam is the back and forward motion of the light switch

This can be a fault in the main cluster switch assembly as the headlight work from one relay set but is triggered for the flash with a separate switch and is also parallel to the main switch on from the cluster switch in forward mode.
So check the continuity when the switch is pushed up as this drives the relay to switch on the headlight

Try turning the headlight control knob clockwise so that the arrow is pointing up. You may only have it in daytime lights mode and not actually in headlight mode.

Does this model use a 4 headlight bright system? I have 2 low beam lights but when I put on the bright lights the 2 low beam lights go out and only the 2 bright lights stay on.

I think that many 1990s and even some 1980s GM vehicles with seemingly 4 headlight systems actually use only 2 at a time.

My 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, for instance, had 2 high beams that went on independently of the 2 low beam lights when switched with the turn signal lever.

In the 1970s the GM vehicles had 4 headlight systems where all 4 headlights would go on, but they used sealed beams rather than the capsule lights that are used nowadays.

For instance, our 1976 Cadillac Seville has a 4 headlight system that lights up 4 headlights on the high beam mode.

Good luck on seeing at night with the current set up.

Push the lever forward to turn on high beams, if they do not work when you do this. You need a new high/low beam switch.

Lights go off when i turn on the high beam

Pull your lever back if the high beams work that way you need a new high/low beam switch, if they do not you need to replace headlight bulbs.

The headlights are stuck on high beam.

pull on the signal lever toward you (ceter position). the signal lever controls the head lights either high beam or low beam. if you pull on the signal lever toward you again, you will have high beam temporarily. and if you push the signal lever towards the front, you will have the high beam locked.
