Are you sure the TV ( trans shift cable at the throttle valve) cable is correctly adjusted?? Without line pressure readings, I can only guess that the D3/Part throttle check ball is missing, if it is a trans problem
If the TV is correct, I am assuming that the TV cable is pulled tight at WOT.
Did you check the throttle (ACCEL) cable to be sure that the carb goes wide open when your accel pedal is on the floor?? This must be done with someone in the car and a second person looking at the carb. Without doing this, you do not know if you have WOT. Without WOT, the trans will not de-tent and shift down.

if its not shifting make sure fluids are full (I'm sure you did) im just saying is your speed sensor on trany pluged in , and your throttle return cable from trany to fuel return hooked up

What could be the cause of suddenly loosing overdrive, reverse, and hard shifting on 1993 700R4 transmission?


first off --run the fault codes
it could be a wiring problem, TCM , or VSS problem, oil change needed or transmission actuator problem

The throttle valve cable controls the transmission pressure. Adjusting this cable is the most important step when installing a 700R4 or 200R4 transmission.

common problem. It will need rebuild or replacement. They are common tranny's do due this, there are many out there and reasonably priced.

Hi i have a 1995 gmc jimmy. I had some tranny issues, it was shifting hard into first and overdrive. I change the filter and fluid and all hard shifting was gone. the problem is that have no overdrive now....


Being that after you changed the fluid and filter out and the shifting got easier but you lost a gear that tells me that something is coming apart in your tranny. Transmission fluid is highly detergent so if you put new fluid in a allready failling tranny most of the time the new fluid will wipe the tranny out the rest of the way. If that truck still has the 700R4 or 4L60 tranny you can try turning the car off, with the tranny in park, stomp on the accelerator peddle several times and hopefully that will free up a possible sticking throttle pressure valve. You can also try replacing the lock-up solinoid inside of the pan but that most likely isn't the issue.

A buddy brought me his headache.Its a 1994 GMC jimmy with the 4.3 vortec 4X4 that had a 4L60E he swapped out the 4L60E for a 700R4 from an earlier chevy.the tranny modual plugs are totally different.How do...


The 700R4 is controlled by vacuum lines and throttle cable kick down linkage (TV) and need to be re calibrated to the engine as to being 4.3 or 5.0 to 5.7. Best thing to do is to get a transmission shop that knows how to custom install transmission like a speed shop. The TV cable adjustment on the 700R4 needs to be perfect. TV cable is used to set part throttle shift points, line pressure and if not set right will burn up the clutch plates due to low line pressure. Good luck and hope this helps. you going to need tools that most of us don't have, like to be able to measure and adjust the line pressure at different RPM. 1998 chey pickup truck 700r4 tranny shifts fine when cold


try some transmedic .put a little in tranny .try to take out some fluid add it in dont over fill transmission .put about a half of bottle in it. it wiil loosen those stuck shift valves.

1986 corvette 700R4 transmission will not down shift from overdrive to third during hard acceleration. Transmission recently rebuilt new throttle valve, TV cable working and adjusted properly. Help?
