If you mean it started, ran until warm, shut it off, then it wouldnt start again, i had the exact same problem on a 2000 pontiac montana, i replaced the fuel filter, thought of the security system, then i found out 3 of the 6 cyls were misfiring. spark plugs and wires were replaced and that fixed it. get it diagnosed and see if any of your cylinders are misfiring because it could be causing the problem. and when i said i had the same problem, i mean it was word for word (minus replacing fuel pump) the exact same symptoms.

SOURCE: Resseting alarm lockout in 2001 Pontiac Sunfire

turning left and stalling sounds like your power steering pressure switch is bad.as for other problem try unlocking drivers door using the key this should reset the factory alarm. also make sure you didn't miss a wire when reconnecting bat. look for 12gauge red wire near bat. this goes to computer if not connected car will crank but not start.

SOURCE: car cranks, but hesitates to start after sitting for over 24hrs

Tune ups are always a good place to start , including air, fuel, plugs and for the extra 5 bucks a PCV valve. If these havn't been done in the last year at least might want to start there. If that doesnt make any difference please post again and we will look at something else!

Is there a fuel pump reset button on a sunfire 2001 pontiac?

No. There is not. There is a fuel pump fuse and relay in the underhood fuse box. GM vehicles from this time frame are known for fuel pump failures.

Fuse for fuel pump on 2001 pontiac sunfire

There are some logical steps need to be taken 1st. Verify if the engine has air, fuel and spark. Fuel can be checked with an inline gauge at the fuel rail. There could be several different things wrong. Bad ECM, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pressure regulator etc. Need to verify spark, this too may have several different problems. Bad ECM again, power/ground circuit faults, coil pack ect.

My o1 pontiac sunfire keeps cutting off when I drive it what could be the problem

Understand this engines need 3 things to run . Fuel a spark to ignite the fuel and an air intake to keep the fuel burning . You say it cuts out when running witch means the electrical system must be working to some extent so leave that alone for now . Next check the air supply system remove the air filter and see if the problem stops its not likely but you need to eliminate causes first .The most likely problem would but the fuel supply . You say its a 2001 you need to replace the fuel filter its an inline filter mounted under the drivers door to the frame rail. The problem is clugged fuel filters damage fuel pumps and yours is made to last 10 years or so . Try replaceing the filter but its likely you need a pump to . Wish i could give you a quick fix but this it the truth good luck

My 2001 sunfire starts fine.but after i drive for about half hour it will stall and wnt start again for half hour.the oil light stays on when this happens.wassup with this?

This happened with my Sunfire. It was the radiator. The engine wasn't cooling, but the sensor wasn't showing that it was overheating. So the engine would start when it was cool, but as soon as it got hot, then if I stopped it wouldn't start again.

Changing fuel filter in 2001 pontiac sunfire gt 2.4 litre and changing plugs

You all really need to get more specific. You've just got a situation here, no question.
The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump, inside the fuel tank.
Spark plugs are easy.

2001 Pontiac Sunfire ran out of gas now won't start. Tried changing the fuel filter, and cycling the key several times, can hear the fuel pump running. Also could get to start with spraying fuel into air...

The fuel in the fuel tank also cools the pump during operation. The pump could have heated up internally, causing it to fail. I would recommend checking the fuel pressure with a gauge and be sure the fuel system is pressurized and not low. A fuel pump can still run and be heard, but at the same time, it also may not provide enough critical pressure to the fuel rail and injectors.
