740 i bmw engin does not crank

I have a 1995 740I BMW. The problem starts with going to short distances and then the car would not turn on anymore. After 10 or 15 minutes the car turns on again. All the lights comes on, AC startes working, radio works but no juice for engin. Now the car would not turn on any longer and I have to take the car out from under ground garage. your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you greg for respond. Actually to be honest I did not checked it. But I bought the battery new. But now that you ask the battery is not its original voltage what its supposed to be. I can jump it and see if it will work .

  • Edmond Dec 01, 2012

Greg the battery jump was successful. It started to work. I drove about 20 min then turn off the car and again start it up and worked. Do you think the battery could be the only issue? I used to drive this car regulary and when it started to acting strange i decided to not drive. What i mean should I buy a new battery again? Also thans for the help i never had such situation.

  • greg degelman Dec 01, 2012

If the battery is fairly new, With out the car running it should be around 12.7 volts, But have your chargeing system check out on it,

SOURCE: 1988 bmw 735i won't start

hi remarkable08;

When you turn the key to start, you should have 12 volts at the small terminal on the starter solenoid.

If you have 12 volts but no cranking the solenoid is not working. If you do not have any voltage on this
terminal there is a problem in the ignition key wiring. If you have no way to measure the voltage, your best bet is to remove the starter and solenoid, take it to an Auto Zone type store and have them check it for you. When you go to remove the starter, be sure to disconnect the ground lead on your battery first.

Hope this helps. Good luck Loringh PS Please leave a rating for me if appropriate. Thanks

SOURCE: check engine light comes on but car runs great 2002 bmw 325i and

The check engine light could be any number of things and the only way to find out is have the codes scanned. The brake light issue is common on E46 3 series. It is an issue were the brown ground wire that goes into the lamp housing melts at the connector causing a loose ground connection. The connector needs to be replaced and also add additional grounding wires to prevent further issues. And for fuel additives either use the cheveron techron, or the bmw fuel additive(the bmw stuff is the exact same thing, so just use which ever is cheaper).

Possibly. 1st have the battery checked though. Pull it out and have a parts store check it (free service). All the lights may work, but the battery may not have enough 'juice' to crank the engine over. Is there a click, or no sound at all? Check terminals and connection at starter also to make sure all are clean and tight.
If battery checks out as fully charged and ok, then pull the starter and have it checked out. Good luck.

My bmw x3 light stays o and the abs light as well this started after the car was jump started.

Im assuming its the 4WD light and the ABS light that are on?
Start engine, turn steering full lock to left, then full lock to right. (4WDS should go out). Then drive car ashort distance , switch on and off again.

Need to know what "trans failsafe mode" message

Trans failsafe is "Limp" mode, it means a sensor has triggered due to a fault in OBC. You need to bring it to BMW or a competent shop to have a fault scan done to identify the actual cause. Limp mode allows you to drive short distance (so you're not stranded roadside)

Bmw 740 il key broke in half at remote part car

Yes it is, but just having the key near the ignition is enough to start the car. If you can turn the ignition with the broken key, hold the broken part in your hand and see if it will start. Hopefully the chip isn't damaged. I know that when GM keys are replaced, they glue the old key under the dash to make it work. Hope this helps.

try with key turned to ignition position.

suspect fuses maybe there is a fuse which has blown.
