My Lumina overheating light came on last night and then this morning I noticed I have water in my oil. My reservoir tank was very low on coolant.

I'm afraid I have bad news. you have a blown head gasket. The only way water can get in the oil is by gasket failure. In 1999 general motors started using Organic Acid Technology(OAT) anti-freeze. GM used this product to triple the life of antifreeze, what GM didn't know is that when OAT mixed with air over long periods of time it broke down. GM used a cheaper style of radiator cap that had a weighted vaccum release instead of a spring vaccum release. This caused the coolant to congeal inside of the engines causing overheating in just sections of the motor. This is what most likely caused your blown head gasket.

This is typical of a bad head gasket. The gasket is shot, allowing the coolant to mix in w/ the oil.

Try adding more gear oil first. Probably low. It also could be your release bearings going bad in transmission.Try adding the oil first.

In Passenger Fuse Panel, position 23 for Stoplamps and Stoplamp Switch (Brake); other details can find in the Chevrolet-Lumina-Owners-Manual (page 296 and next).

I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with the ''Low Oil'' light on.

may be the oil sending unit is bad
may be the oil pump
is there any noise in the engine?
have the oil pressure check at a repair shop to make sure you have enough oil pressure
if it's ok then have the shop replace the switch while they have the old one out to check the pressure
