I own a 88 civic with 450,000 miles on it. I've done everything you can do to it. the civic doesn't have a oil temp sensor, however it does have a pressure sensor on the back of the motor near the oil filter.

My 88 Montero sport motor runs very hot but the temp gauge reads normal. Could it be a head gasket

run the fault codes to start with
next have the temperature SENDER unit check for correct operation
have a compression test done to check for head gasket/cracked head
check for coolant level at the radiator cap as the sender unit needs water around it to indicate properly or else it only reads the metal temperature that it is screwed into and may actually read a lot less causing you to burn the motor
I have experienced where the bottom plastic tank of a radiator has come off and the temp gauge went down with out going up that resulted in a burnt motor.

98 honda runs fine then turns off while running on freeway then will crank but not start for about 30 mins changed ignition switch plugs an wires help plz

it may take some talking back and forth but i can help you fix this. does it seem like the engine stalls once its good and warmed up and wont start till its cooled down a bit? this is very common and its ussually caused by the coolant temp sender (not the one for the dash the one that runs you fuel and emissions) more or less it goes out and you car doesnt know its warmed up so it floods the motor out after a few miles because more or less the choke is stuck "on" . once the motor cools down it will typically start right back and and then repeat the symptom. ive seen other issues cause this but the coolant temp sender is very common and also a cheap fix ( just did one on a buick and the part cost 14 bucks and it took me about 15 minutes to replace). is the check engine or service engine soon light on or does it come on then go off?

Civic deisal 1.7tdci 2003, fault code p1095, runs fine when you rev but when you put your foot down, feals like fuel starvation issue and managment system shuts car down, new injector pump £1400....

PO195 is oil temp sensor malfunction reason car has no power is a fail safe comp is getting oil temp false reading as a protection feature engine will run in safe mode oil temp reads normal range engine failure can result from oil temp very high that will cause the oil to boil and not be able to lubricate engine boiled oil is same as using water

if the engine temp is ok test the wire to oil sensor for power and ground for the switch if power ground replace the oil temp sensor

hope this helped you

plz vote comment if you need more info reply

Where is the temp gauge sending unit located in a 1999 pontiac montana

ALL temp gauge senders are on the engine mainly on the top of the retuen of the water to top hose or in the housing some were around that area and most are small brass senders with a 1 or2 wires going to it
but sometimes they are at the back of the engine but not hard to find
But dont get mixed up with OIL SWITCH as oil switch is lower in the block

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.
