Steering column is very loose and temperature gauge sometimes works and when you move the tilt steering it kind of works. Could there be a ignition problem. Any suggestions on how to fix the temperature gauge and the steering column.

I had this problem with the steering column. It had to be replaced! Had a hard time locating a replacement...2 weeks/$580 part/intallation. Good Luck.

Steering column loose

You need to rebuild the steering column and tighten all the tilt parts up that have worked loose over the years.
Here is a guide to do that. The video at this link is of a truck repair but the columns are the same in both and use the same procedures and special tools to repair.

How to tighten 1989 steering column?

There is a u-joint inside the steering column if you have tilt wheel. Which I don't think that I have ever seen a steering column get loose if there is not tilt wheel. If there is not tilt wheel then there are two bolts that hold the steering column up against the bottom side of the dash. You will just need to tighten these two bolts. If you do have tilt wheel, then it is going to require taking the steering column out and replacing the u-joint in the steering column.

NONE OF THE GAUGES WORKS ON THE DASH

If you select drive on the shifter and drive the car does the transmission shift out of 1st gear? If not. I had the same problem. Take the cover off around the steering column, on the left side there is a wire connector that pulls loose when the steering column is tilted up and down. I plugged mine back together and DONT TILT the steering column ,you wont have any problems.
