Question about Nissan Sentra

Open Question

I have a 1996 nissan sentra. I am replacing the water pump. I don't do alot of repairs so I am new at this. There is a belt that goes around the power sterring pump, water pump and crankshaft pulley. My question is how do I loosen the belt to take it off. I have already loosened the lock nut that holds the adjusting bolt. I have turned the adjusting bolt clockwise and counterclockwise and I don't see the belt loosening. Please let me know what the next steps are. Thanks

SOURCE: 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8S, with AC - how to replace belts?

first of all you don't have to loosen the pulley, this will no solve the problem, well you already loosen the adjuster, good, bot thing you have not done i will tell you now,on the power steering pump where the belt pass there is also a bolt that hold it ,you must loosen that also, then after you will see the pump moving on the two position that means you will see the belt loosen on 1 position an d the position it will tight the belt, try that man.............

SOURCE: how to replace power steering belt?

Look for a still- tight pivot bolt on the pump. Lots of parts have an adjustment bolt on the bottom and a pivot bolt on the top-or vice versa.
If the pivot bolt is too tight, the pump may not swing in all the way to remove belt. Check for any other bolt or nut that won't let it move freely to get the belt off. Maybe the smog pump can be adjusted in?

The belt sweaking is due to poor belt condition and can be replaced.check these tips:

The car is stalling due to poor ignition/ idling settings and so you need to check the fuel settings, the plugs and the timing. Also the idle speed must be put up after the enigne is warm.

Do i need to tune up nissan sentra 1996 model. i do not notice any problem. what is the cost to do a tune up

A tune up consists of the followig: -Spark plug replacement -Air filter cleaning/replacement -Fuel Filter replacement -Engine timing correction.
So yes, you must do a tune up every once in a while and a must before an emissions evaluation. It's not very costly and can be easily affordable by someone who can purchase gas for everyday use. For a 1996 Nissan Sentra, most of the cost will come from the spark plug that you will buy and the labor cost for correcting the timing of the vehicle.
