Question about 1992 Subaru Loyale

1 Answer

I have a Subaru optional 4WD Loyale wagon that is having either differential problems or axle problems. The car make bumping noises when going up hills and when starting from a stop. I took it to a AAA transmission shop for a test drive and the guy there said it was axle. Previous shop said transmission. I think if anything it is in the differential. Any thoughts?

Some noise, not hideous, but I can feel it. Car had one other owner, my Mom, and hasn't been in any accidents.

SOURCE: subaru cv axle noise?

Do you know if this car has ever been recked? if your going thru that many axels makes me think something is not running true, a wheel bearing would not make a cv joint in a axel go bad. Did you replace the axels? or did you have them done at a shop, and did you see the old axels after they were replaced. You got bigger problems than a wheel bearing. From what i can gather some thing is bent or your getting bunch of bad axels witch i dought.

I have a 1988 Subaru L Series Touring Wagon with a busted CV Joint, i have the new part but not sure how to fix.........Is it a difficult job? Do you know where i could find a free guides or directions on...

If you are replacing the CV joint itself, you have spent too much money for one, and are in for more work than needed. I own a 1993 Subaru Loyale Wagon, front wheel drive (converting to four). I had to replace both sides when I got it, and it is so much easier to replace the drive axles rather than the CV joint. I suggest returning the part, and purchasing the entire drive axle. The drive axle will require the same steps : Remove brake system, knock out pin in drive axle near tranny, and pull the drive axle out. Insert new drive axle, replace pin (if new one is not provide, this is okay.) and re-assemble brake system.
If this is not feasable for you to do, and replacing the CV joint is your only option, then go to the the auto parts store and ask for a CHILTONS manual for your car.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

There is a horrible rattling noise in the front end of our 03 gmc yukon xl. i think the 4wd linkage is broken.

It sounds more like a possibly bad CV joint in an axle shaft or internal differential problem. There is no mechanical linkage to the front axle, its all electronically controlled. The front suspension is pretty good there aren't a lot of rattle type noises created from it. I need more info to diagnose better. Does it do it only moving? or stopped? over bumps only? in 4wd only? while turning? certain gears or speed only?

If the inner part of the CV axles in fact completely came apart, the car will act like the trans. is completely gone. Replace the axles and start driving her again.
