SOURCE: 2001 subaru forester rear wiper motor replacement

Hi, it is pretty straightfoward (ahem, you know how this can go. depends on whether your wiper arm retaining bolt is frozen and snaps off the shaft or not). First, take a look at your fuse to make sure it is intact. If it is, just gently pop off all of the plastic trim covering the tailgate, and undo screws too as necessary. Then test the connector wires to be sure you are still getting power back there to the motor, I used a $4 test light that I got from AutoZone. Then use a large philips head screwdriver and 10mm socket to remove the whole dang thing.

SOURCE: My hood latch is broken

If the cable link to the latch is rusty or broken you have to take the front grid down. It's relatively easy. It's held there by plastic fasteners. Then reach for the latch with you hand, or the leftover broken cable. Pull it, it should release the first latch, than you just have to get to the security latch, like you usually do to open the hood.

SOURCE: 2001 subaru forester 225000 kms..how long do they typically last?

Provided the vehicle has been serviced regulary and had good quality oil and filters, theres no reason the car shouldn't get 400,000+ kms. Check its service history, and its oil consumption.

SOURCE: The hood will not release to open. I released the

So I gather that the release inside the car has release the hood's primary catch, but the T handle is not release the secondary catch to allow the hood to fully open.

If this is the case, take some lithium grease or WD-40 (lithium grease is much better and lasts much longer) and spray it onto the catch assembly.

Try pulling on the T handle some more after a few minutes of the grease soaking in and see of that releases.

If that doesn't work, then take a long flat screw driver and press it against the catch gently hit the screw driver with a hammer (you should be trying to push the catch towards the driver's side of the car)
You may need someone to be pulling on the T handle as you hit the catch with a hammer. I actually had to do this with a jetta before....

My horn just stopped working on my 2001 subaru forester I am looking to trouble shoot the problem. And the Subaru web site is not cooperating.

The most common failure for the horn circuit is a weak grounding point. With the hood open you can see the round horns units attached to the center bar under the hood latch. simply remove the mounting bolts sand around the hole it goes in and coat it with dielectric grease or vaseline. the second reason they fail is the wiring in the clockspring can break with age. I usually replace it with a used one from a wrecking yard. Test it before you finish the install
