Question about 2000 Chevrolet S-10

Open Question

My 2000 S10 with Flex Fuel Engine is running rough, especially on a cold start.

This problem has been going on for about a month, getting progressively worse. The truck sputters when idling and hesitates under low rpm/ acceleration conditions. I had a code for an oxygen sensor come up, I replaced the sensor which took care of the code but no improvement to how the engine is running. The only other code is for a P179-Fuel Compensation Sensor. From what I hear this code is related to the fuel composition sensor that sense the fuel mixture of E85 and gasoline. I do not believe this is the problem, as that code has been up for over a year and I only use gasoline. I also read that a burnt valve is a possiblilty, but I have not run a compression test. Any ideas would be appreciated.

SOURCE: 1996 s10 2.2 engine starts but idles rough and will not rev up.

Hi! You must be frustrated by now! your code is marking that the O2 sensor is bad in bank 1. Did you replace the O2 sensor that is located  before the catalytic converter?  The S10 has an O2 sensor specially made for that cat. its about 30$ That would explain for your blackened spark plugs; your pc on the car is asking for more fuel. GOOD LUCK!!

The biggest thing I can see is they changed to flex fuel on January 1, 2000, so that engine is flex fuel and your truck takes a non-flex fuel engine. Some things will need to be changed, but I don't have a list.

My 2000 pathfinder is rough starting intermittantly and showing code P0304 cylinder #4 misfire. Had new plugs & wires replaced 6 months ago. what could be causing misfire?

Could be several things, such as leaky fuel injector flooding cylinder after shutdown, or oil fouling plug due to bad valve guide seal of broken piston ring. Install brand new plug, run about 20 miles, let engine get cold overnight, remove plug to red is it wet with gas or oil sooty.

1992 Chevy S10 2.5L-4 cylinder. just started today outta no were. it idles really rough and pops then when i step on the gas it sputters and pops also smokes a little. help please..

My 1990 S10 pick-up had a similar problem too. It would start up fine (while the engine was cold) then once the engine warmed up it would idle very rough, sputter, and even stall out. My grandpa and I found what was wrong finally. The fuel distributor had been cracked, so when the engine warmed up it would miss (giving either too much or not enough fuel). So I recommend that you check that. Hope this helps.

Saturn 2000 SC1. Was started this morning ran very rough (thought to be spark plug/wire problem) Would not Accelerate; extremely rough and quit going for a drive around the block. Tried to start it to no...

You need to start with the basics. If all of your cylinders are in good shape, see what is missing, spark or fuel. This will get you started in the right direction. Look at the spark plugs, and see if you have spark at all of them.

2000 Chevy s10 2.2L very rough idle at low rpm

run a fuel pressure test, if that checks out fine it may be a faulty coil pack or ignition control module

Runs rough on startup

Run in to autozone, pep boys, or other major autoparts store & they will usually do a free code scan for you. Once you know code, easier & better/cheaper to fix, than guessing & replacing parts that are fine.

When car is cold it seemingly runs on 3 cylinders

seem like you got the same problem as my scion xa, check the fuel pressure regulater. bad regulater some time smell like leak gas. auto zone might cause you about $80.00.

Missfire

Locate you computer (right front kick panel) and tap on it with a pen while the car idles... Also flex it back and forth with your hands to see if the car runs rough or quits... You may need a new one.
