SOURCE: I own a 2005 impala

Sounds like it needs transmission fluid if its an automatic. When automatic transmissions get low on fluid they **** or slip when the pumps in the transmission lose pressure. This can also cause permanent damage to the clutches in the transmission. Check to see what color the fluid is. If its red its ok. If its black looking the strainer needs to be changed or the clutches are starting to burn from lack of fluid.

My 2005 Chevy Impala's power stearing problem?

From the sounds of it, that pothole messed up your steering. Something is binding in the steering train, could be a damaged tie rod end, one of the other steering joints, or even the rack and pinion steering itsself. When it's binding, the power steering pump has to work too hard, slowing the engine down, making your lights dim because it's also slowing the alternator(on the same belt drive) and furthering your steering problem. You need to get it checked out immediately before something breaks and gets you into an accident. Remember, if steering linkage breaks, you have NO control of your vehicle, and it doesn't care if you're driving 70 mph on the highway.

Oil pressure is fine. Oiling only to the pass side valve train.

The 3.1/3.4 engines are built the same way. The oil goes through the cam bearings then to the lifters, then the push rods to the rocker arms. The last engine I seen that had a weird problem had the cam bearings spun. Unfortunately there is no easy way to check for this problem short of disassembling the engine.

The other possibility would be bad lifters but loosing half of the engine lifters wouldn't be possible. Sometimes the pushrods wear on the contact areas also but not usually half an engine.

This isn't going to be easy, Good luck.

Steering is loose

Had the same problem with my 2005 Chevy Impala, the dealer put a kit on the steering column. It is a bushing of some type which took up the slack.
