Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Coupe

Power window not working

My son has a 96 olds cut supreme 2dr and the driver side window is stuck 1/2 way down. The door rest has a 4 button switch plate. 1 button is the driver window, 1 is the passenger window, 1 is the door locks and the other is the mirror. They all work fine except the driver window. I bought a new switch unit and it does the same thing. I traced the wires to the motor and all are intact. I would guess it is not the wires coming into the door since all other switches work. I hear a clicking noise in the motor and it has in the past started working again but this time nothing. Can you help?

It sounds by the motor clicking that your power window motor is shot.....If you jump 12 volts to the terminals on the motor does it work?.................if it does you can at least get it up.......if you put the power to it and it goes down reverse the wires on the terminals and it will go up.But it sounds to me like you need a new one.
hope this helps!..............Good luck!

1 does the led's light up on the master window switch [drivers side] 2 when you rocker the drivers side down can you hear a audio click down under the steering wheel. the i/p fuse panel is down there where you rest your left foot.3 power is from battery saver relay to master ins. relay to one touch window relay. this is the one you should hear click. the back side of this fuse panel calls out the locations down there. the owners manule also helps some.4. if you take the interior door cover off remove the screw on extenstion on door lock and one screw under plastic button where you pull the door shut.arm rest support bracket. the rest is held in place with snap in plastic buttons [christmas trees like]. the door latch unlock should slide out of the opening when you slide it froward.there are 4 male/female electrical connections, 2 to the master door switch.one to the power/heated mirror, 1 to power locks. 5. don't unsnap them yet.with a test light you can check for battery voltage. on the master door switch the blue/black tracer wire should be hot[12 volt dc]. at all times. put one end in the backside and the other to a bolt or rivet on the door. the light should come on.next with one end on the blue/black tracer and one on white/black tracer rocker driver side up/down switch, the light should come on.there are only 13 wires on the master window switch 2black wires are ground, 2blue/black tracer[hot] 1 red/blue tracer should be [hot] when you unlock the window lock rocker switch.know the passanger and back seat switches should work. switch it to lock and they should only work from the driver side master switch.the 8 wires left are 2 for each window one up one down.try this with a friend it makes it easyer. good luck doug.

Window switch for drivers side window/ window won't move all the rest work window stuck about 3 inches open

The driver side window switch panel and the circuit needs a check including the fact that there is POWER to the panel - if in case the power cable harness has opened in the door hinges.
Now the rest of the windows seems to cut off as there is friction when the glass goes up which can be a glas channel friction or if the motor drive is fault and so cuts off on load. You need to remove and check for free movement of the window glass and also check for the load bearing on the winder to confirm. Check for +12 voltage without loss to all the windows for the drive.

2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is opened (in case you closed it)
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button pressed !!
5. SLAM hard the door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.

7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, but usually the first try works!

Remove driver's side window switch

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can disconnect the harness connecting to your window switch and remove it

Passenger side power window does not go down

I would start by locating the fuse for the power windows, if one side is working move to step 2. I have replaced window regulators on several american vehicles, the honda should be no different. Youcan order the power window regulator online on autopartswarehouse.com, or take a chance at your local junkyard. you will need to remove the door panel, start at the release mechanism inside, usually 1 screw with a small plastic cover. in addition, 1 screw in the grab area of the arm rest, also covered. at the bottom of the panel under the arm rest start to pry off the door panel, you can take it off with a flat blade screwdriver or flat pry bar. it will make a snapping sound. then proceed, there are about about 8-10 total clips. after this is done, you will need to un hook the power window and door lock connections. next remove the door light connection at the bottom of the door. remove the plastic lining as careful as possible. you will need to put this back on after you finish. usually there are three screws attached to the regulator and 4 screws, 2 on each side of the alignment tracks. in addition there are 2 screws holding the window to the brace that moves up and down. remove the window bolts first and remove the glass, then proceed with the rest of the bolts, then re assemble as you have taken apart. On the hondas I would say about 2-3 hours will be need for each window. Good Luck!!!

Driver side window won't raise up!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To resolve the issue you are facing with push the unlock button once on the factory remote=unlock all 4 doors. Hit unlock a second time=all four windows down. When exiting vehicle hit the lock button on remote=all 4 windows all the way up. Also, all four window controls on the driver’s door panel are one touch up and down on master window switch. Remove the door panel by prying it off. But be careful not to damage the panel. Now unscrew the top of the panel and the area by the arm rest. Once you get the panel off, then you will see how the switch is mounted into the door panel from inside. If the switch has gone bad this is required to be replaced. Remove the old switch and connect the new one.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

And you need the manual to look at how to do some tedious work. I couldn't remember all those parts so I recommend tape and labels and notes as you go if memory is bad. I tape the screws to the area where I removed them. Switches break too and so far I can't tell if it's a switch problem or motor. A small piece of copper wire should help you bridge the contact points, where the switch normally does so you can see if the switch is bad.  My doors went bad close together and that indicates the switch. Some people say a can of switch cleaning spray is good enough.

Power windows

Under the dash next to the steering columb there is a control module for the power windows. this has a series of relays inside. Toggle the switch on one of the doors with the power on and you should hear a clicking noise coming from the box. If no noise, check relays and fuses under the hood near battery before replacing the control module.
