Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

The windshield wipers on my 1986 Toyota pickup just stopped working and I'm stuck in heavy rain. Any troubelshooting ideas?

Wipers were working when truck started, but went down about a mile into the trip and didn't come back up again. The fuse looks okay. I need to jury-rig something so I can get safely off the San Mateo bridge--currently in the employee parking lot of the toll bridge, which is safe, but ot accessible to AAA or tow trucks. Is there anything I can try while I wait for the rain to die down?

Check the Relay switches in the fuse box and make sure there's a good connection to the motor that runs the wipers it can be found bottom of the windscreen under the hood.

Windshield wipers stopped working with heavy snow cover

The windshield wiper circuit has an circuit breaker in it, under heavy load this breaker trips to protect the wiper motor, when the motor cools, the breaker resets automatically restoring proper wiper action.

2001 toyota solara sle convert windshield wiper fuse consistenly blows when the car sits in heavy fl rain and then you try to use the wipers. New wiper motor installed problem still persists. Check all of...

check to see if the wiper arms are binding, something is causing a feed back to the motor to strain. Blowing a 25 amp fuse is serious, and could cause many more problems, check for a good ground, clean all grounding wires in the system for that fuse, if you wrapped the wires and it quit for a brief time, one of them could be broken or burnt to the point that when they heat up and expand they simply can't complete the circuit

Driver's side windshield wiper stopped working duing a heavy rain. I can move it by hand easily. Has the linkage come loose?

Hello, I would say that is exactly what has happened. If you can move the wipers with no resistance it's likely one of the bolts has come loose. Both wiper arms are linked to one wiper motor.

May want to look at replacing the wiper circuit board. It is located on the firewall adjacent to the wiper motor and has a some what square black cover with 3 torx screws and wireing harness pluged into the side.We had a truck that every time you washed it the wipers would stay on until it dryed out.You can try removing it and spaying it down with contact cleaner just watch the brease on the two contact tips.Well hope this helps.
